A few questions on filling out a Carers Allowance application

We are in the middle of filling out a carers allowance application and have a few questions,
Hopefully someone has already filled one of these out and can help

It asks if the person who is receiving care is attending day care or a rehab centre, does a special needs preschool count as one of those.

Also in the medical part of it, it asks for the signature of our son ,(he's receiving the ca're), he's 3, there is no mention of what to do if the person in question can't write.

    Hope someone can help, cheers

Q1. They seem to be only interested in if overnight care is being provided, as this is not covered by CA

I would answer no... I presume your son's preschool does not provide any over night care.

Q2. If you child can make a mark or x on the form, I would get them to do this and add a note that this is the only signature of sorts that your child can make.

I wouldn't worry too much at this stage.

Special needs pre- school would count. Get a letter from them. Put in all evidence you have. Also write down a typical day and what you have to do with your son, you will be amazed at what extra you do without actually realising it. The more information you give the better. I wouldn't worry about the signature.
Do you have domicillary care allowance for him.

With all due respects to danjo please disregard his reply to you.
You cannot apply for carers allowance in respect of your little boy unless you are in receipt of Domicilliary Care Allowance for him.
are you getting DCA for him?
If so, just complete the Carers Allowance form as instructed, he is not expected to sign anything and the GP is not expected to complete the medical report as the Department already have the medical information as arsult of your successfull application for DCA.
if you have not applied for DCA, then do so right away as there is quite a delay.
The form can be found on the www.welfare.ie website.
DCA is quite difficult to get. Does your little boy have a diagnosis? Please include a copy of the specialisits report concerning your little bouys diagnosis.
Also, you need to include a letter from yourselves detailing how your little boy needs more attention than another child of the same age and how this impacts on your dailiy lives and that ofyour immediate family.
You are required to provide evidence in this way.

Cheers all, we have DCA already so it looks like it will make it a bit easier, his school and the teachers there have been great and have helped us to do a week long diary of what needs to be done.
