Is this New Year's Eve.. NYE 2013 or NYE 2014?

    Everywhere I go I see advertisements for events on NYE saying New Year's Eve 2014 - like this - why?

    It's still New Year's EVE - the clue is in the bloody title like.

    Did the call New Year's Eve in 1999, New Year's Eve 2000?

    Can't recall, too drunk but had I noticed, I would have been livid.

    Seems to be a new thing to call NYE by the year it is leading to.

    It's New Years Eve 2013 and that's an end to it!

    Am I right or wrong?

    Eve of 2014 New Year rearranged. Thus it should be '14.

    Surely it's New Year's Eve 2013 as it's the Eve of the new year on 31st December - which is still in 2013.

    Anything else is just wrong/stupid.

    It's bloody 2013.

    I might accept New Year 2014's Eve, maybe.

    But otherwise it is New Years Eve 2013. If you say 2014, you are making zero sense and are a silly person.

    This has to be the most ridiculous question ever on AH. It is clearly New Year's Eve 2013. It is the last day of the year - 2013. Any attempt to say it's NYE 2014 is just arguing for argument's sake.

    To cap it all the advert linked to was from the USA. What do you expect from the asylum?

    It's new years eve, 2014.

    because it is the eve of the new year which will be 2014,

    to put it another way, we could say old years end 2013

    If you had a meeting on 31 Dec 2013, you would have the meeting on new years eve 2013

    But when talking about the new year it should read, new years eve, 2014

    New Year's Eve in 2013 is precisely that, NYE 2013.

    ...after the 12 bongs at midnight its not New Year's Eve anymore > Its New years Day, and its then 2014.

    Sorted.

    New Year's Eve is the day before the New Year. Therefore it occurs in the current year, not the new year.

    You wouldn't say Xmas Eve, December 25th, so why would you say New Year's Eve, 2014?

    If you wanted you could say "2014 Eve", but that just sounds stupid.

    The answer is in your question OP - New Year's Eve. Which means the eve (or evening before) the new year. And when does the new year start?

    The day is called new years eve, it takes place in the year 2013. Therefore it is new years eve 2013. If someone is stupid enough to think otherwise then perhaps they should strongly consider re-educating themselves.

    2014 is the new year therefore it's 2014's new years eve.

    When someone says it half six, do you think the time is 5:30? In germany they do, an in english New Years Eve 2013 is December 31st 2013. I get what you are trying to say, but you are wrong.

    You may want to sit in on a Montessori class to learn about days of the year. I'm pretty certain a 5 year old would know this.

    It's the same as Christmas eve,it's the eve of the following day as is new years eve the eve of the following year.To put it in simple terms for you.
