Super job. What did you do re the batteries and a charger? I heard that the best 18650 batteries are the named brands.

Any of the 3400mah 18650 batteries are Panasonic cells regardless of the name on the pack. The name on the pack is the company that fitted the protection circuit after. The 3400mah are a little harder to get but can be got none the less. Xtar chargers are good quality chargers. You need to be careful with the size of the batteries because depending on the company fitting the protection circuit the batteries end up thicker or wider. Just check the battery carrier size on the light you choose and make sure to get a battery to suit. When I started looking into it I thought an 18650 battery was an 18650 battery.... but no its never that straight forward. I got my Keepower batteries and xtar charger from the uk off ebay. Ill see can I find his details as he was sound.

I appreciate that. Is the modded lamp just a different led cell? And why did you decide on the K40 over the TN31

There are several improvements made to the light from direct bonding to copper, heat sink improvement Battery carrier mod and more. Results - more lux and throw. I was trying to buy a tn31 from osts but I couldn't get to talk to the man himself about delivery etc. So I went for a different modder who himself mods the tn31. He explained the differences and I chose the K40. There are so many to choose from its a bit daunting. Also they are improving constantly. Have a look on candlepowerforums and have a browse. It will take a while to get your bearings as they talk a lot of tech but lots to be learned on there. There is a sub forum for modders. I cant recommend a modder as I haven't got my light yet

Been looking at that forum the last few days and there is the world of stuff on there. Best thing to do is wait to see how you get on and go from there.

I would appreciate a look at it in action alright. Sounds like what I am looking for.

I am based in Cork and Sod's law would usually mean you are living at the other end of the country?
