Macro lens for Nikon D5100?

Hi,

I enjoy wildlife photography immensely(looking at it,I might add),but have recently purchased a Nikon D5100 in the hope I can take such pics. myself.
I have a particular interest in macro photography(insects and wildflowers) and was hoping someone here could suggest a decent macro lens for my camera.
I should have stated from the outset that I'm a complete novice in this field and am slightly bamboozled by the possible options available to me!Just thinking out loud here,but could I use an extension tube rather than paying a small fortune for a macro lens??What are my options?

Macro tubes along with a 50mm fixed (prime) lens will get you started in macro quite cheaply. The 50mm lens is approx. €100 and the tubes can be bought on Ebay for €6. Yeah,I've since done a small bit of research into possible macro lenses and they ain't cheap!
I'll definitely look into what you've suggested.
