I receive a 102 mini in the post a few weeks ago and decided to update the firmware through USB. I must have made a mistake along the way and now the unit is bricked..
I got a null cable, rs232 cable and tried using the STB EROM upgrade software to get things back but it just hangs on synchronising STBs Please Reset Target! Any assistance is welcome.. thanks

Are you starting with your box off?

If not you should be and when you get the "synchronising STBs Please Reset Target", turn your box on and wait. It takes a few minutes.

Also, are you sure it's a null modem cable you have and not a serial cable. Finally USB "null modem" cables don't work in case that's what you're using.

You should see it start to flash the box in less than 5 mins.

You have pointed it to the correct firmware file?

The null modem for the 102 Mini is the Serial to 3.5 jack type cable.

You didn't answer if you're trying to use the USB converter or are you using a serial port on your PC?

This is one instance where an old PC with a serial port is really your only option.

As for yer man in Maplins, he's talking through his backside. I have unbricked dozens of Ariva's with the null modem cable. In fact, I've never even had a difficulty doing it. I haven't done a 102 mini though, just the ones that use a full null modem cable.

Ok mate, that's a good sign.

Looking at the link you gave earlier, I'd day you're trying to use the firmware for the 102E as opposed to the mini. These Arivas are very particular about firmware.

This may be why you bricked it!!

    Let me look for firmware...!

So what has the box actually done?

Don't give up, you have the right cable and the right firmware, so its just a matter of getting the process right.

Are you ticking the "include bootloader" box in the erom upgrade box?

Same problem as before always hangs on "Synchronising STBs Please reset target!"
I ticked all the right boxes,COM1, upgrade, include bootloader etc..
Followed instructions to the letter, its got me beat!

There's a small config file that if run in the sequence below might get you going:

    Restore with Null Modem Cable
    1. Connect cable to computer and to the box.
    2. Run “Config” - windows batch file.
    3. Open “Erom Upgrade”.
    4. Browse to updated image file on computer or USB.
    5. Tick “include bootloader”.
    6. Click Next and then turn on box.
    7. Wait till finished.

If you want to pm me an email address I'll send it to you.

If anyone is looking for the Ariva Eprom Upgrade tool and Editor for your Ferguson Ariva box, I have included a link below.
I had trouble getting these from the Ferguson website.
These files are particularly useful if you get the "ASH" message on the front of your Ferguson box. Instructions included with each file.

Includes files for the following boxes:
    52E
    100
    100E
    102E
    102mini
    120Combo
    150Combo
    152Combo
    200
    200Combo
    202E
    210Combo
    220Combo
    250Combo
    252Combo

I messed up a channel list load and now have the dreaded ASH on a 150.
I have followed the procedure described in other threads and am using the patch and erom upgrade tools from here-
    http://www.ferguson-digital.eu/en/download/HD-Satellite-Receivers/Ariva-150-Combo/

I keep getting stuck on "Com Test Error", see attached.

using what I think is a null modem cable i purchased a few years back but hadnt used. I tried on 3 different pc's with serial ports com1.
Is the cable the most likely issue?
    Any advice please.
    Regards

I had ash on an ariva 150c
sorted with a null modem cable on an old dell d830 with a dedicated serial port
I had a little greif with the software my antivirus thought it a little dodgy so I disabled the antivirus and firewall and it flashed fine

Thanks, i was able to download the software but havent got it to work on a few pc's all with serial ports and two different null modem cables.
I posted a query to Tony over on the ariva 50 terrestrial thread as to how to use two boxes connected with a null modem cable to reflash that way.
