Yea they're in a good while. Six maybe seven weeks.
I'll admit though it was partly for handiness for feeding after work in the dark evenings.

Your right about the fields. Serious greening all round here.

I still have about twenty of the lighter weanlings out and five of the autumn Calvers. I might try and leave them out altogether. The autum calves that are out are doing far better than the ones inside

Milkers in by night from mid Nov, fulltime 2nd wk of dec, Heifers etc last week. Outwintering 15drycows at the minute, far from ideal, too much poaching going on, and tractor ruts, but I dont have the sheds setup right yet. Milkers are flying through the silage (but at least pumping out milk also!), the pit of 76dmd will be gone in late Jan and its the 2nd cut 71dmd stuff for them then, so I could really do with an early feb turnout!

Red letter day here, every adult animal on the farm either has a cubicle or a straw bed to lie on, first time since I started farming that I don't have cows or heifers on kale or some sort of outwinterage.

Last dry cows put in today

Reasons for having them in or out?

Some smart arse is going to tell you that lying on a cubicle outside doesn't count as "in" :p

Older stock are in since mid November. 40 odd weanling are still out although they have a shed to lie in at night. Excellent cover in most of the fields. Hopefully if this wet stormy weather goes away and it dries up we can move them to greener pastures and leave them out.

Last animal in here today, a blind heifer weanling in the same paddock since June, got out with the rest of the calves and I couldn't do anything with her since. Cows in and out , paddock topped and fert spread and the calf stayed. Opened the wire a couple of days ago and she fooled away in herself, a little bit further each day and into the shed today. In great order no feed or dosing. The freezer I suppose.

Nothing in here yet sold half the stock last week will have to house half of what is left first week of January the rest will have enough to see them through to march. Hopefully spring grass will take off then.

Cows have been in full time by night for the last 2 weeks. Weanlings been in full time since the start of November.
