I should be the transport minister

    Here's why....

It is currently €3.05 to get the bus from my house into town. That's expensive and does little to encourage anyone who drives to change to public transport.

The fares get progressively cheaper as you get nearer to town. This is common practice - the further you go, the more you pay. I would like to destroy this archaic notion.

What if the fares went up as the distance travelled went down. This would mean that people from the suburbs can get into town for 50 cent. This is roughly what the service is worth imo. As the bus approaches the city centre, fares go up steadily (70c, €1, €1.30 etc) but then when it gets to within 2 km the fare rockets up to €3.

I think this would encourage people to leave the car at home (If far from town) or walk (If they're too close to be getting the bus anyway).

The plan is flawless and if you disagree feel free to not post anything.

You should be the bus and carry people on your back.

And when people ask you what the fare is you just say "Vrooom Vrooom, I'm a bus I dont speak English".

Minister for transport doesnt even look at the price of yer bus fare. If thats all yer concerned about, get a job in the nta. They set the rates.

If the bus was free I still wouldn't use it.

Minister for Transport gets chauffeured around the place therefore any direct experience of commuting or travelling on any form of public transport is irrelevant for the job

If you travel from the suburbs and get off outside the CBD, you should get €1 back. And a foot rub. And a cup of tea. And a hug.

You're not the boss of me.

So, cheaper the longer the journey? So how about lying about your destination and getting off at the next stop?

I have a better idea. Invade Norway. Steal all their oil money and then subsidise public transport. I don't see how that wouldn't work.

Except Norway would hockey us with all their oil money.

The only reason people use the bus is because they dont have a car.One major incentive for buying a car is not to gave to wait for the bloody bus anymore,so they can charge pretty much what they like.
