Hi all. Just a quick one for ye..... anyone here playing the TM R1 driver? What are your opinions on it? Seeing them now in my club shop at significantly reduced prices and was tempted. Is the amount of adjustment too bamboozling or is it brilliant innovation? All opinions welcome

Not an answer for you but I picked one on adverts.ie only the other day and hopefully I will get to play with it for the first time tomorrow morning. I will give you an update after a few rounds. Early impression is that its certainly full of adjustments that after a bit of trial and error I hope will deliver me better driver performance.

    Will update in near future

I was changing from an r9 460 and tried it but found I just couldn't hit it very well. On the other hand another member on here upgraded from the same club to it and found it good for him. Can you not demo the club?

I took a demo out on the range recently to try out comparing it to my current 910d2 . I was probably getting a longer average distance, but the dispersion was noticeably higher. It wasnt the largest number of balls to be able to tell for sure, but I wouldn't change my current driver for it based on what I saw.

Will probably try to get a demo of it as soon as possible. Asthetically it is a good looking club imo so all that remains is to see if it can add anything to my game

If you're in Dublin they'll let you demo it at the spa well range

There is 268 different settings on an R1 apparently, good luck finding the right one. They weren't popular on tour which says it all for me.

That post sums it up for me. I am prone to a fade which inevitably turns into a slice sometimes. Will the settings on the R1 help to alleviate this issue or is it all down to me and me alone. .??

I'd imagine one of the settings will sort it

Well sort out your swing first but in the short-term the settings will probably help. It depends on how much time you want to devote to eliminating your slice and how ingrained it is.

Another better answer. The R1 has lots of adjustments but it would be better to get a driver that has a loft, face angle, lie etc. that suits your swing. Yes you could tweak around until you find the settings that work for you or you could go to a pro who will do this for you and then advise on what to buy. I don't see why anyone would really want to adjust their own club unless they wanted to fine tune (not coarse tune). I see the value for a low handicap player who wants to hit the ball lower, higher or shaped depending on the course and weather (eg windy conditions). I don't think the adjustments are good for a high handicap player. Pros don't need the adjustment as they can leave the club into a tour fitter who will adjust it for them.

To stop a slice you need to get a good grip, good alignment and then good awareness and control of the clubhead (the last one comes from hundreds of hours of practice).

I was custom fitted in Foregolf for a driver and the R1 was selected. I haven't changed the setting since the custom fit and wouldn't bother - i think these adjustable drivers are to help the fitter dial in the correct setting rather then for the user to tinker with the setting before/after a round.
BTW - I like the driver, it not dramatically better then my last driver but the results are more consistent. Whatever about the driver, the shaft selection is more important then the head, in my opinion….

Well why not just buy a club that has the right loft, lie etc. The R1 does carry a bit more weight due to the adjustment mechanism. The R1 is a fine club btw.

Agreed - i wasn't in the market for an adjustable club but this club was tested as working best for me with some tweaks to the settings . I don't find it any heavier then my previous driver (Ping G15) and I'm happy with it but its noisy when hitting

If it works for you then it's money well spent. The G15 is also a good driver. Not sure that I like a noisy driver; it kinda jars.

I had one for a few rounds and was very disappointed in it. I had got a fitting but I turned my brain off during the fitting and just watched the numbers, the R1 came out best, but it felt terrible.
On the course it can be longer, I probably hit my longest driver ever with it, but only 1 out of 5 drives went where I wanted it to, huge dispersion and not much feedback.

    Loft too strong?

No, pro recommend 10.5 from flightscope and even played with it set higher once or twice trying to get a draw back. But I was reading (maybe on here?) about the lofts being all out on various R1's, have it set to 10.5 and it could be 9.5 or 11.5.

What are you changing to pink?? Have to say I'm loving the look of the new big Bertha but it's not due out till February

Going back to the RBZ stage 2 driver. Much more consistent and longer with it than the R1. Should never have changed in the first place.
