With the Christmas and the new year coming up,with most people over indulging in food and drink and the usual super diets and keep slim resolutions being made is liposuction an answer ?

While it's not being sold as a weight loss procedure it does suck away some admount of fat,and if you then continue with an healthy eating lifestyle it's win win win, yes ?

What's your opinions ? Iam having a think about it for the new year :-)

I suggest work it off yourself. It will cost less and make you feel good about it.

If you can afford it, I say why not.

Nay. Unless you are morbidly obese in which case there might be a point to it, but also increased risk with the procedure.

Because you learn a lot more about eating, health, fitness through managing your own weight loss. You also learn about your own weak points, whether it be comfort eating or over eating or binge-eating.

You will learn sustainable habits that will carry through the rest of your life.

Go over to the Health & Fitness forum and be amazed at the wealth of knowledge over there.

    Ok this is the deal,

    I would have a bmi of 36,
I have tried numerous gyms, personell instructors and healthy eating.

But there is a belly or skirts of fat that I have that just won't go.

That's why I am thinking very strongly of going for it.

Wasn't there some research made public recently saying that it doesn't work, the body just replaces it over time.

Yes it won't work if you stay in an unhealthy lifestyle,it is not a permanent weight loss procedure, but for the likes of me it would get me back down to the starting line again, and then it's up to me to continue with the lifestyle of my choosing.

Don't think so.The body reacts to it been taken away and replaces it no matter what your diet or exercise plan.

By diet and exercise but liposuction doesn't last apparently.

If you lose the weight, then it's easier to have cosmetic surgery to get rid of loose skin. The fat will be gone, but the over-stretched skin remains.

(I used the H&F Forum to help me get down to my present weight, which is now - yippee! - BMI 25 or whatever normal is. So I sympathise.)

I was 22st at one point am now 17st and have an embarrassing skirt of visceral fat in which I have been told by many professionals I won't get rid of by no ad mount of dieting and exercise,my plan would be to get rid of the fat and then start again in the gym with healthy eating to keep at a healthy weight so I would not put the weight back on.

In a few months I would have to have another procedure to get the skin cut, yes it's a great forum I am a constant lurker :)

From what little I've heard about it; it seems like there isn't much point

If you adopt a more strict diet/exercise you can burn off the fat.
If you get liposuction and don't - you'll quickly regain what they took away. It might take 2-3 years but probably less.
A study published in the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery surveyed 209 liposuction patients—most of whom had undergone the procedure more than two years earlier—and found that 81 percent had not lost any weight, and 43 percent actually gained more! (Most gained five to 10 pounds.) The researchers concluded that for liposuction to be a success, the patient must begin practicing a healthy lifestyle immediately after surgery and should eat a well-balanced diet and exercise regularly.

So - in two years - only 19% will be lighter than when they started. The other 81% will be back to square one (or worse).

The thing is - if you are going to go on a giant fitness kick to keep the results of lipo, well, there isn't much point in getting lipo. The only difference is how fast you'd get the results you want. Lipo is fairly painful too and it'll be 6-8 weeks before you are pain free again.

Before and After shots are impressive though. I can see the appeal. But in 2-3 years nearly all of them will look like they did in the Before shot, UNLESS they start working out. I'm having trouble finding the costs in Ireland, but I think it'd be around 3000-4000 euro?

Personally, I wouldn't do it. I'd either spend the money finding a fitness program I would enjoy enough to stick with it or spend the money on new clothes and just accept being pudgy.

It costs nearly 6000 euro here, thanks for your opinion UCD.

If you only consume the calories you need or less, you'll be fine. The body can't just make fat out of thin air, it needs excess energy.

Looking at the fat that's sucked out would make me crave a strawberry milkshake so I'd just put the weight on again.

In all seriousness I wouldn't get any form of surgery that wasn't absolutely necessary.

Yes, if it means less fatties on the street.

Lipo isn't exactly for weight loss though is it? I thought it was more for 'body sculpting'? Maybe for losing a few inches in the short term but you will just gain the fat again so it's a waste of time.

If you want to resort to surgery to lose weight then you might as well get a gastric bypass. That will get you down to the weight you want and then you can deal with the loose skin surgically if you want.

Or just eat well and exercise and do it the old fashioned way. Im sure you will feel a lot better for it. You've already lost 5 stone so you know you can do it.

dont do it, waste of time and money. yeah youll look good (while being in pain from surgery) for a couple of months but you wont be able to maintain it.....think about it. you said yourself you cant lose the fat right? well then itll just come straight back after the surgery and yo wont know how to lose it again because you never learnt how to in the first place because the surgery did the work for you, not you yourself.

only way to do it is to WORK HARD for it. i hate the direction of western culture these days...everythings always "now now now" but shortcuts never work.

use the money to go to a professional gym, not some half-assed gym...also talk to bodybuilders!!!!! preferably female ones, assuming youre female,(and yes there are loads of female ones too, always in my gym and they are fit!) they have perfect bodies, but they didnt get them out of surgery or by accident, they worked for them, so theyll be able to tell you how to achieve what you want because they've done it themselves. now im not saying you need to be a bodybuilder, but bodybuilders are the people that know what is what when it comes to achieving nice aesthetics.

also, the great thing about lots of daily exercise is that it releases feel good chemicals in the brain, it keeps you fit AND you can eat almost anything you want and still look good because youll be using so many calories...only down side is you have to WORK HARD, something our ****ty society doesnt seem to encourage anymore.

Yes I got it done, they took 4 litres of visceral ?? Fat from me, Very sore and black and blue after it, but now nearly 3 months later I feel and look much better,It is not an easy and quick way to loose weight but with a healthy controlled diet and some exercise it certainaly did the trick for me when everything else I personally tried failed. Happy client here.

It cost me 5400e, yes onenightoverstay in clane private hospital , It's recommended to take at least a week of maybe two,and will take At least 3 Months for you to really see the benefits.

Ps it's not for everyone and should not be used souly for weight loss as that's not what it's about.
