Dry Steering for turn about manoeuvre

    Hi Folks,

Just wondering if you are allowed to dry steer a tiny bit when doing the turn about manoeuvre for the driving test. I find this way easier than turning quickly on a narrow road. People I know who passed the test years ago say it was ok back then.. has this changed recently ?

FYI : I am able to complete the manoeuvre without dry steering on wider roads, it is just the narrow ones I am worried about..

My instructor asked that I steer while moving during my lessons, as his car would see a lot of turnabouts and 'dry steering' (as you call it) would wear his tyres out quicker if everyone was at it the whole time. Which is fair enough.

During the test, as i recall, you can steer while stopped if you wish, yeah. It doesn't make any difference.

Great Thanks!.. Another quick question... When doing the reverse around the corner manoeuvre, are you allowed to change the position of your left wing mirror so that you can see the kerb better ?

    Yes you can :)

Don't forget to change it back after!

I recently done my test. Instructor gave me a great tip when reversing around corner.
Basically when parallel with kirb, dry steer so car is straight before final reverse. I done it during test and it was fine. Although it's not as much as the turnabout.
