Was running to Dunnes for some breakfast when I noticed a guy collecting for charity outside the door. He was dressed in full Santa gear and hi-vis jacket.

When I tried to get a good read of his charity info on his bucket, I noticed it said something about needy families. He saw I was trying to read it, turned around and walked away. He walked up the street and I followed him like a fcuking ninja. Pow pow!

He started talking to another group of charity workers and then another, as if he was involved with them. I asked them if they knew him, they didn't.

I followed him back to Dunnes and he set up camp.

    Police call b!tches!!!

5 minutes later, 2 Gardai bust his ass - took his ill-gotten gains and his fake ID.

I asked that the money could be donated to a real charity.

A small win for the good guys.

Lesson? Before you give a charity volunteer any money, make sure they are legit.

He didn't look like an Irish version of a middle aged Elvis did he or an Elvis impersonator? If so, I know who it is!

There were a few of those guys doing it over the past few days. Some on Cruises street, outside Penneys and over by Bedford Row. TBH the collections in the city centre have gotten out of hand. Last week on the same day, there were 2 guys on Cruises street collecting for the same charity. A guy outside Easons, one outside Penneys, 3 school girls collecting outside BT, 2 guys collecting for another charity outside Clarkes and another school girl outside Dunnes trying to get money out of people waiting for buses.

It's insane and is probably high time that collectors were regularly checked to see if they have a licence.

The only difference between this guy and a 'real' charity is that he hasn't filled out the appropriate paperwork.

They all seem the same to me.

Just as well none of the real charities are even vaguely dodgy, or the whole sector could be perceived in a bad light. It's lads like this that give charity a bad name. He was probably using the money to top up his income as well.

Wouldn't the best way to do it, be to work for a real charity and pocket a certain percentage of the cash? but I'm sure that never happens
