    My friends PC build.

    About this time last year a friend and I built twin PCs together. We went with i7 3770k CPUs, Asus deluxe motherboards, 180Gb intel SSDs, 2Tb Caviar Black storage drives, and Asus Gtx680s, all wrapped in good cases with quality power supplies.

    We sold consoles and spent our year’s entertainment budgets.

    I wouldn’t change a thing going back.

    They were both our first attempts at building PCs, and I used the following “plan”;

    1. Buy case and power supply.

    2. Put power supply in case.

    3. Buy Motherboard, Processor and Ram, (the most expensive buy was these three parts)

    4. Assemble them, make sure it all works.

    5. Buy SSD and windows, make a working computer

    6. Buy a big ass storage drive for files and put it in.

    7. Buy a graphics card and put it in.

    Fast forward to now and a friend of ours would like to build too, his needs are so;

    1. What is your budget? €1000.

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? “Gaming, editing, rendering and Photoshop.” I know he likes his photography…

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Yes, just not sure which one is best for his needs...

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No.

    5. Do you need a monitor? Yes, but that will not be considered until last and a separate budget will be assigned.

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? At this stage, once we have the €1000 tower sorted we can worry about a nice mouse and keyboard later; I’ll give him a loan of a PS2 mouse and keyboard until then.

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes, but we’ll be sticking with the stock cooler for now, so over clocking will be coming later…

    8. How can you pay? A credit or debit card.

    9. When are you purchasing? Starting within the next week so he doesn’t spend his money on crap.
    Probably be best to sort the case and power supply so he’s committed then. ;P

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? I’ve built before and I’ll help him.

    So, my friend is joining the gaming master race. He’ll be using his machine for video editing so he needs something good.
    I used good quality parts like Asus, Intel, CoolerMaster and Corsair, please excuse the fanboyism but I know and trust these brands and I’d like to go in that direction.

    To the community for your thoughts. :D
