Sending cards in this day and age

Why do we still bend over backwards and take the 200% mark-up from greetings cards companies to send a card that will just be read and more than likely thrown out after a while?

Surely in the year 2013 we should be taking full advantage of technology and social media and send a simple message. I know there's some people you have to send a card to but the majority of people a phone call/text or message online would do the job.

Thank you and the same to you.

See that just saved a few euro between both of us!

Ah, sure why do anything when you can do nothing.

and less rubbish for the bin :)
Now what about all these new gimmicks that have been going on over the last few years to get sheeple spending money. Chris kindle, secret Santa, pre Christmas dinner (usually in an expensive restaurant) 12 pubs etc.

Buy charity Christmas cards. Much cheaper.

I enjoy the personal touch with me own scribble in saying happy Christmas, sent 20 cards this year and will do a few texts for the more technical relations on the day itself :-)

Anyone can fire off an electronic message. It goes to show that someone has actually thought about you if they send you a card. It's a nice tradition and long may it continue.

What next electronic mass cards if somebody dies?

Totally agree. Nothing like the personal touch.

In this Digital age, texts, e-mails & the rest have nothing on a card handled & signed by the sender's own handwriting.

Of course, it might be a bit old fashioned to some...

First year I finally stopped sending them. Fewer people were sending them to me and they're just a clutter.

I honestly think getting a text, PM, or a call from somebody Christmas Eve or day is enough for me.

It's a curious notion that a warm and touching message is somehow less so because it's electronic and not handwritten.
