    Hey,

I am not sure if this is the right 'corner' to put this, but I didnt know where else, so I will leave this in here...

    So:
    1) John has a TV at home, that he aint using. Does he need to pay TV Licence?
    2) John has a TV at home, connected to PC and is using it as Monitor, using HDMI cable. Does he need to pay TV Licence?
    3) John has a TV at home, and is using it only with Multimedia Center, no TV connection whatsoever. Does John need to pay TV Licence?
    4) John doesn't have TV, but receives TV signal(UPC) and displays whatever they screen on one of his 150+ channels on PC Screen using HDMI cable. Does he need to pay for TV Licence?

Ps: John is imaginary non-existing (non)being

    Thanks

How do they find out, that John has TV at home, while he is using it only 'offline'?

If the device is capable of receiving the signal it needs a license.
    Its why they call around

if you have any equipment capable of receiving a TV signal, whether your using it for that function or not, even if it's broken (i kid you not) you are required to have a TV License.

hmm... in UK they are allowed to have TV for as long as they 'prove' they use it for offline content

    http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/topics/what-if-a-tv-licence-is-not-needed-top12/

Is this applicable in Ireland too?

How would they know he was using it "online", whatever the hell that means?

If you had a tv with no plug on it under the stairs covered in dust that hasn't been used in 10 years you need a licence, stupid but that's the law.

Actually yes, He just needs to go and say the car is off the road... when he wants to get it back on the road, he needs to pay 3 months prior the day it first touches public road... but technically, you can have a car, which is never gonna use public roads, and you do not have to pay Road Tax(think of a Racing Car modified to fit Track, but not Road Worthy - you do not have to pay neither insurance, nor Road Tax for such car
