    Question:

Can any Irish person move to say, New York, or somewhere else in the USA in attempting to work/audition/train as an actor... How hard is that to do in terms of visas/green cards, etc.?

    Hi daveyboy.

There are already a lot of similar threads like this in the forum so try a search and see what the usual replies are.

You'll find that the US is a very difficult part of the world to move to unless you work for a multinational company who already have a presence in the US or have a particular rare skillset which a US company would be willing to pay $$$ to ship you out there.

There is no visa which would allow you to move here and look for work I'm afraid though I'm sure that you'll come across the odd good luck story where things worked out for people.

    Good luck !

edit : There may be something specific to acting that I'm not aware of.

What Ponster said is correct. The only way to move to the US to work as an actor is basically if a company/ movie studio sorts and pays for a specific acting video for you, and for that you'd need to be well known.

Now, if you want to train as an actor, you could possibly get a student visa, depending on the sort of school you'd attend. However, on those visas you cannot work (only up to 20 hours on campus), and you'd need to show you can support yourself before getting the visa, and of course said visa would be limited to the length of the course.

No but if you decide to study acting you can get a student visa.
