C1 lessons only - Dublin area

    Hi all,

An organisation I work with may soon need its drivers to have a C1 licence. Currently the vast majority of our fleet are on the high end of a B licence (2.5-3.5 tonnes) but future fleet additions may have to be C1 vehicles (4-4.5 tonnes), and the majority of our drivers only have B licences.

I know a lot of driving schools offer C licence lessons, which I know will cover what we need, but I am asking if anyone knows of a driving school which will offer C1 lessons as we have no need for the full C licence, nor do we see any need for it in the future. I found one school in Galway that offers this but have yet to find one in Dublin.

As well as this I know a couple of our drivers may be intimidated by learning to drive a full truck when all we need is to do is obtain a full licence so we can drive vehicles slightly heavier than what we are all used to driving. I know I would feel much more confident driving a C1 vehicle than a C, and knowing this I feel a C1 licence would be much easier and cheaper to obtain across the organisation (less lessons, probable higher pass rate).

    So can anyone help?

I am currently seeking a driving school who use a truck-and-trailer (as opposed to an artic) for C+E lessons. During my search I also considered doing C1+E lessons instead (as I mainly want to add B+E and C1+E to my licence), however I was unable to locate any driving school in the Dublin area who offer C1 lessons. They said they would have no problem doing lessons if I provided a C1 vehicle (via a friend of via a van hire company) - which isnt a runner for me.

Perhaps you could wait until you purchase a C1 vehicle and then organise an ADI instructor to teach your drivers?

Incidentially, a driving school I located who offer C+E truck/trailer lessons www.aclearsteerdriving.com are also associated with another school who appear to provide lessons/courses to ambulance and fire services.....perhaps they could help you? www.advancedrive.ie
