    Hi all
I was wondering with all these different speeds that both fixed wireless and companies reselling Eircom ADSL & fibre are advertising is there any way of actually measuring throughput as in how much they are 'pushing down the pipe' to you to use a water analogy or would there be a basic minimum standard?

The functionality you are looking for is not that easy to get from the devices that are used by most providers. Some devices may have some SNMP traps available for data collection but that is probably beyond a simple home solution usable by non-techies.

I've been using a specialised linux firewall distribution called "Smoothwall" running on an old P3-era low power usage server that I use as my router /firewall on my home network. As part of that I have traffic graphs and other monitoring going back over the past year and a bit, and I can see the peaks and average throughputs on my home connection. It works for me, but it is not that easy to set up if you aren't au fait with networking.
