Very nice crosswind landing by a Ryanair pilot, Bristol, Dec 18th

This pilot made a good job of the conditions in this little clip. This must have been quite close to the max crosswind allowed..

It reminds me of being a passenger flying into Shannon back in September 2001, when I could look out of my window and I could easily see the centerline of the runway to the rear of the plane before the pilot touched one wheel then yawed quite heavily as he put the second set on the ground.

    Good flying!

Bloody good handling.......Bristol is a sh/t hole at the best of times especially with rwy 27 with a huge dip at the touch down zone.

Wow, some serious crabbing there. Nicely done tho:)

Could have used a little more rudder to straighten out. I dunno why Bristol's runway was built on it's orientation...there is always a pretty stiff crosswind when I've flown in there!

    Could you have done better?

Been flying into Bristol over five years, crosswinds always a bit of fun in there :)

Of course....I'd have told them to put on another 20 knots across the nose...make it a bit of a challenge!

To be honest if you stand in Bristol with a camera most days when there's reasonable wind you'll see heroics similar to this

The Boeing Flight Crew training manual suggests that landing the way they did in the video (touchdown in crab) is the correct way of doing it on a wet runway.
On very slippery runways, landing the airplane using crab only reduces drift toward the downwind side at touchdown, permits rapid operation of spoilers and autobrakes because all main gears touchdown simultaneously, and may reduce pilot workload since the airplane does not have to be de-crabbed before touchdown. However, proper rudder and upwind aileron must be applied after touchdown to ensure directional control is maintained.

There's always one who thinks he's better than everyone!

Funny, it's usually the quiet guys that keep it to themselves that are better and the loudmouth 'I can do better' guys are just trying to compensate for something they don't have!

I agree with the defensive retorts. Could have done better irks me. With over 16k hrs and 10k in command I can safely say the FR guy landing in BRS did a fine job.

You my friend have shown through a few posts that you have a problem with people who are actually pilots. Sick with envy perhaps...try and channel it constructively in future

On my original post, I was clearly being sarcastic....

Those of you who took the chance to read my reply to Cessna Pilot's post in reference to my remarks objectively may have picked up on that....First rule of landing in harsh conditions, praise from other pilots for doing so is praise from Caesar!;)

As I was told on my first approach to Bristol "Get it in the touch down zone and we'll worry about the rest then"

Absolutely no problem with pilots whatsoever. I've a problem with people who boast about being pilots and think they're gods gift!

Somehow I don't think you were being sarcastic ;)

All I'll say is that you tend to react badly to pilots talking about doing actual piloting and view it as "boasting". Those posts make you look very small minded and bitter.

Think what you like then I dont care.

Atleast I've better things to do with my time than apply my amateur psychoanalysis to other people on an internet forum.

Weird. The link itself to the original video is fine,

This link is 480p, so there's a bit more clarity on what's going on.
