MBNA payment protection

I have received a letter from MBNA in the UK saying that they are carrying out a review of Payment Protection Insurance to assess if they were in compliance with Consumer Protection Code 2006 issued by the Central Bank which came into effect on 1 July 2007.

Has anyone else got one of these letters? What sort of outcome should I expect from the review.

Yep about 2 years ago. They credited whatever they had calculated as being accurate into my account about a month after getting the letter.

As far as I know they are being compelled to carry out this review by the FSA. If they conclude that you fall into a class of persons that can be deemed to have been mis-sold PPI then you can probably expect some offer of compensation.

However, I cannot speculate as to the likelihood of this or the amount of the possible compensation.

Edit: this would involve you waiving any claim against them under the UK Consumer Credit Act, etc.

Got the same letter think u will get the outcome early 2014. I closed my credit card account in 2008.

I got this letter too and I'm just wondering if it's just a few quid or likely to be a significant amount?

Were you supposed to send anything back?

    The letter states

"no action is required by you at this time as a consequence of the review"

Any idea when the review might conclude. I know I was likely ineligible for PPI because I'm self employed.

No idea. They did provide a phone number for enquiries.

I phoned the number on the MBNA letter. The number belongs to Avant Card. I enquired as to when the review would be complete. Avant Card said MBNA has informed them that the review could continue up until April.

After hearing nothing from MBNA I phoned avantcard. They stated that MBNA informed them at the end of April that they would not be finished the review until July. This was due to the large volume of cases involved.

OK I received a load of literature from MBNA today. It was posted from the UK. They require me to make my case by filling in an application form which the have supplied. The jist of it is that if I was in full time employment, aged between 18 and 65 and a resident of the republic of Ireland then they were entitled to sell me PAYMENT PROTECTION INSURANCE. Therefore because I was living and working in this country I am entitled to nothing.

Can anyone supply me with information for a basis on which I might get to reclaim the Payment Protection Insurance premiums that I paid to MBNA?

I remember getting the hard sell on the phone from these sharks a few years ago, the insurance was 1% of the balance per month and would pay the interest only for maybe 6 months, if I was unable to work or maybe lost my job - not sure about the job bit.
Anyway I was paying about 1.2% pcm interest, so it screamed a scam to me at the time. 8 months payments and the insurance was in the black.

I had a letter from MBNA UK saying they were looking into if I had a ppi claim and that AVANTCARD IRELAND would be dealing with me. I then got a letter from AVANTCARD saying I was not miss sold ppi. I wrote to MBNA UK and they sent a letter saying ppi in Ireland was only sold on an Exclusion only basis, which means as long as you were in work, over 18 and live in ROI then there was no claim.
NOW HOLD ON A MINUTE I WAS STILL MISS SOLD IT, IT DIDNT MATTER HOW THEY WORDED IT SO I WROTE TO THEM AND DEFINED " EXCLUSION ONLY BASIS" IT STILL SAID " SOLD" SO GOT MY FULL REFUND. IF ANYONE WANTS HELP TO WORD THEIR LETTER FOR THE REFUND. ILL BE HAPPY TO HELP. I HATE PEOPLE BEING RIPPED OFF. THERES NO NEED TO PAY SOLICITORS ETC WHEN YOU CAN DO THE SAM" STATE THE LAW"
I will email anyone who needs help "FREE"

DONT PAY SOLICITORS. I GOT THE SAME LETTER STATING I WASNT DUE A REFUND BASED ON THE " EXCLUSION ONLY BASIS" MEANING IF I WAS WORKING, OVER 18 AND LIVED IN IRELAND I DIDNT HAVE A CLAIM. I DOWNLOADED THE FULL MEANING OF EXCLUSION ONLY BASIS AND SAW THAT I WAS STILL SOLD PPI. IT DIDNT MATTER ON WHAT BASIS I WAS STILL SOLD IT. I ADDRESSED ALL MY LETTERS TO MBNA UK, NOT AVANTCARD SAYING I WAS MISSOLD PPI AND IT DO NOT MATTER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. MISSOLD IS MISSOLD.
I GOT MY REFUND WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS. IF ANYONE NEEDS HELP LET ME KNOW

I had an MBNA card for a good few years. Cancelled it last year. Fairly sure I paid PPI for a while. How would I go about checking if I have a claim? Not sure I would have details of card number or years I was with them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,065 ✭✭✭Miaireland

You should be able to contct the MBNA and get a form. I filled in a form recently and they just needed my name, address and dob but it was with a different company. I think they cannot use the lack of card number or years as a excuse as they would have it all on the system. JUst email/ring MBNA and ask them to send you a claim form.

Hi I was with them for 15 years. I was speckling to advant today. They said they would look into it. Would there be much of refund. Thanks you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 unhappychappy

Irish Pete. Sorry only now saw your thread. Don't know why I didn't get an ALERT. Yes I had the same letter saying exclusion only basis as long as you were employed, an Irish resident and over the age bla bla bla. BUT THEY MISOLD YOU THE PPI AND MISOLD IS MISOLD WHATEVER COLOUR SHAPE OR FORM. YOU HAVE TO WRITE AND TELL THEM THAT THEY MISOLD THE POLICY TO YOU, IT DO NOT MATTER WHAT CONDITIONS THEY SOLD IT IF IT WAS MISOLD TO YOU, THEY HAVE TO PAY OUT ALL PRIEMIUMS PLUS INTEREST ETC.
I WILL POST AN EXAMPLE OF THE LETTER HERE NOW. I WAS PAID OUT IN FULL
    Dear sir
I have been MIS sold ppi on the above policy and require all monies plus interest paid to me within the eight week time frame allowed. I was MIS sold ppi because ( insert your reason) I am aware of the exclusion only basis that mbna operated on in Ireland but MIS sold is MIS sold, it do not matter whatever basis it's under and I was MIS sold the policy.

My reasons were application was via telephone and ppi was not mentioned, not offered etc

Advent sent me a letter saying I was not entitled to a refund. I contacted mbna.co.uk
There's a form on their website you can complete. I wrote directly to mbna uk and got a letter from advent saying they will be issuing a cheque. SO DONT DEAL WITH ADVENT GO STRAIT TO MBNA UK

I think there is a 6 year rule. So you should get 6years ppi payments plus interest

I received a cheque from MBNA with a refund of policy payments made over 3 years with 2 quid interest applied. Is there any scope for further payment based on negligence, inconvenience caused etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,826 ✭✭✭Sebastian Dangerfield

I stupidly lost both the letter and cheque that I received for a claim going back to 2007. Now when I try getting it cancelled and resent, Avant tell me old claims need to be directed to MBNA, and MBNA send me back to Avant.

Is there an email address or number on any of the correspondence other people have received, and if so could you share / PM me please?

Hi i am looking into this now as my hubby is a self employed plumber but since our credit card is from 2006 i was advised from citizans information that it was outside claim timeframe of 6 years. Is this true? Thank you

I processed my claim only last summer relating to 2005 to 2009 so I dont believe you are outside the remit. They only began advising us (the public) of the breach last year so its a bit wrong/unfair to say you are statue barred.
