    Hi All,

getting rid of a juice guzzler today and looking at a D4D. I'm guessing that the 2.2 will not be as good on consumption, dearer road tax with the obvious benefit of decent interior spec, a little more umph under the hood, 6 speed and chain driven as opposed to belt. Just really looking for any feedback on preference between the two. Car will be '05 - '06. I'm currently getting 30mile / €10 so both will be significantly better I'm sure ?

    Friend (taxi) tells me he's averaging approx 50 mile/ €10. That's in a 2.0 D4D variant.

I assume your talking about the 2.0 d4d and the 2.2 dcat?
If so go for the 2.0. The 2.2 aint bad but if neglected a little the head gasket can go.

Yep, spot on. Cheers for the advice. I suppose I could not have received a reply from a more apt member ;)

If you are looking for the D-4D with the timing chain then it will have to be the 125bhp version in the facelifted model from 2006 onwards. 2.2 version is less reliable.

Mine is a 2007 model. 2.0 D4D with 6 speed and chain. It's a TR model that came in from the UK. Decent spec, cruise control, built in satnav. Never had any problems with it.

Wont have the funds to stretch to a 07 chain driven unfortunately. Out of interest, what did you pay on the duty ? Might hold out for a 2.0 Spirit with toys & leather. Though as is typical, when you're looking for one, you'll never find it !

Yep, just a shade under a grand per annum. Drove one yesterday ( 06 ) but the gauge was averaging 23MPG. Maybe owner had a lead foot but I'm not taking any chances and getting back into be with another drinker.

Even 50 mile/€10 seems not great. I have an 02 d4d and get 500 miles near as anything every fill with mixed driving. 55 liters per fill. So around 80 quid.

Ignore the trip computer. Mine has me getting 30% less mpg than I actually get.
