......and would be grateful of any tips and advice for things to do etc.

There from Jan 1 - 4th with my missus on honeymoon.

Is it worth doing a tour of the grand canyon and how much does it cost etc?

Any other must see things etc would be great thanks in advance!

I think that with only 4 /4days you shouldn't try to plan things out too much and just enjoy the place 'naturally'. I've never considered Vegas a place that if you didn't see something in particular that it would nag you afterwards or people would say "You mean you didn't see the XXX?!!?"

there are probably more threads about Vegas on Boards than almost any other destination :) You'll probably spend most of your time on the Strip, walking from casino to casino and perhaps betting the odd dollar :)

The Grand Canyon is wonderful but the Grand Canyon that you've seen on National Geographic shows for example is a 4-hour drive from Vegas. I've done it in a day-trip with 2 drivers but lots of people here have opted in the past for the helicopter ride from the airport. Much faster and you have the option of landing in the canyon for food but IMHO you don't get the same experience as a visit to the south rim.

vegas.com has a list of attractions/shows etc in vegas, the free attractions are all worth a look http://www.vegas.com/attractions/free-attractions-las-vegas/

grand canyon will be cold in january and sometimes foggy so its not the best time to visit. cost is about $80-100 by bus to the south rim (which takes 6 hours each way) and about $250+ by helicopter. the west rim is much closer to vegas but nowhere near as spectacular.

if you want to check out sites outside the city that are closer then hoover dam/lake mead is a short drive as is red rock canyon and valley of fire is about 1 hour drive. it might be 20 degrees and sunny on the strip while a 30 minute drive away on mount charleston you can go skiing http://www.skilasvegas.com/winter/index.html

Thanks guys that's great. Think I'll leave the Grand Canyon for another time so if there's a chance it won't look spectacular.

What about restaurants? Any tips for the best steak in Vegas?

vegas has some of the best steakhouses in the world so you can't go wrong. every major hotel has a highly rated steakhouse.

as for grand canyon, thats a live shot, if you take a look every day and notice its staying clear then it should be ok to take a trip out

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. It's rarely foggy even though it was foggy a few weeks go which some said was spectacular [ https://www.google.ie/search?q=grand+canyon+foggy ]. Everybody I know who has done it by heli, including myself a few months ago, thought it was money well spent. Spend the extra $50 for the front seats.

There's plenty of threads on the US forum you need to check out and also the Poker forum, though you'll have to dig back a few years for the best ones. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=60274731 is a good one iirc; not just poker related.

Bellagio Fountains have a few different shows which you should check out.

Also recommend taking a car out for a run in the desert.
