ASUS Radeon R9 290X DirectCU II review

Pcper has a review of the new Asus R9-290x with non-reference cooler. Seems pretty awesome - massively quieter and cooler than reference, 50 MHz overclock out-of-the-box and headroom for a fair bit more. Seems to be a match for reference 780ti, although probably not the custom cooler versions.

Only problem is...you can't buy one. They won't be out until mid-January at least.

Just had a look through that. Sweet, hope they make waterblocks for them. If so I shall be picking up two of them

Indeed, impressive. Under 80 degrees while overclocked to 1.2ghz, trading blows with a 780ti (not one at 1.2 plus ghz, but a boosted one at 1.15ghz) at 1440p.

Here is one for a 290 with Sapphire Trix cooling, the Toxix card, 68 degrees under load! And one etailer is advertising it for 400 euro via geizdhls, which may be less once more have it and they try to under cut each other

im a self confessed nvidia fanboy (currently have a GTX 690) but thats one awesome card . and sapphire would be my manufacturer of choice for amd cards . At that money they will sell like hot cakes . nvidia really need to get with the times on their priceing now
