Hey, so I'm not looking for Christmas movies so much as great movies that can be watched one after another on Christmas Day. They're not mutually exclusive obviously, but I know all about Scrooged, Home Alone etc. There'll be a group of us, all adults, and some aul wans so nothing too out there!!

Films that I'd love to watch had I not already seen them are:

    Die Hard trilogy
    Catch Me if You Can
    Home Alone
    Now You See Me
    The Life of Brian
    Lethal Weapon trilogy
    Stardust

    All suggestions appreciated.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Quite a good watch, a great turn from Val Kilmer.

Bad Santa needs to be watched. Preferably while you're getting drunk or stoned.

Muppet Christmas Carol and Elf are two good all rounders, jokes for everyone

We love the Harry Potter movies at Christmas. Since they each take place over a school year you get a Christmas scene and some snowy scenes in pretty much every one of them and the majesty of the world of magic that JK Rowling created works perfectly at this time of year.

They're not everyone's cup of tea but if the first hour of The Philosophers Stone doesn't put a childish smile on your face you've become far too cynical. ;)

    Trading Places

Can't beat the Indiana Jones movies either, they're not in any way festive but it always feels like Christmas when you see them on tv, Temple of Doom especially for some reason.

Its a Wonderful Life, MERRY CHRISTMAS BEDFORD FALLS!!!!!!!

Trapped in Paradise is a smaltzy comedy with added minor swearing. I actually quite like it, but don't think that was the general perception of it when it came out.

Just Friends is set around Christmas and quite funny.

The Terminal is a great feel good film too, love the ending.

The Great Escape. Time it just right so that yer Ma is putting the dinner on the table just before the sad ending.

The Bridge on the River Kwai is a great lazy Stephens Day flick.

Plus 1 for Muppet Christmas Carol.

Back to the Future trilogy are a great watch too.

I think The Sting and Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid are great films for a diverse audience, both very entertaining but safely within most people's comfort zones!

A matter of Life and Death

Seen one Christmas a few years ago (at least a decade) and it's become "The" Christmas film for me, great film.

David Niven is brilliant in that film, haven't seen it in years, will definitely root it out its a great choice.

The original star wars movies, especially The Return of the Jedi, always make me think of Christmas.

Gotta have at least one epic in there too, Lawrence of Arabia would be my choice, plus it's so long a few people might fall asleep leaving any uneaten sweets up for grabs.

I'm a huge "Jingle All The Way" fan. Many see it as a stinker but I think it's great.

Can't beat an epically long '70's disaster flick! These 2 in particular:

    The Poseidon Adventure
    The towering Inferno

I'm the only one watching Its a Wonderful Life every year, no one in my house likes it  I think they were all adopted :D

I saw the original Miracle on 34th St. one year at some ungodly hour at 6.30am on RTE1, loved it!

    Christmas Vacation
    Home Alone
    Scrooged
    Elf

Bear in mind if its everyone's taste, as there was a survey out one year that there's always a barney at 4.20pm on christmas day over the remote, Well last year we had a Barney over & he was great craic in the mix :)

It's set at Christmas in the beginning but isn't an overly Christmassy movie but yeah it's definitely something I'd watch around that time of year. It's flawed but Hoffman makes it worth watching.

Not quite true with some of the later ones in the series. Some poor films in there.

Any movie involving Arnie punching a reindeer has a certain charm.
