Emergency tax

I'm really confused by the revenue website. I've been paying emergency tax for the last three months not knowing that I could sort out moving my tax credits to a different company etc., over the phone. I did this two weeks ago, and as of last week i was still being emergency taxed. I contacted the payroll department in my current job (HO in England) and they said that they needed to receive the amended tax certificate from the Revenue even though I had scanned them over, but she said it should be sorted this week.

I (eventually) received my p45 from my old employer last Friday. I scanned over a copy of this to my current employer on Saturday. Will the revenue already have a copy or do I also need to send this to them? Also, when can I expect a refund of my emergency tax?

Sorry, I know this is a long post.

might be too late to claim it this year

If you register for Payeanytime you can request a balancing statement in late Jan / Feb - this will sort out any refund due

I was under the impression that because I started working with the company this year it would come back through my wages. This isn't correct?

Possibly; if it's all sorted before your employer's last payroll run in 2013

I'm not sure though if your P45 is sufficient after they have been deducting Emergency Tax for a while or if they have to wait from a cert from revenue. & revenue dont issue certs in december usually
