Saorview and FreeSat Suggestions PLEASE!

Im looking for a very simple solution to use that will combine the channels from Saorview and Freesat.

Had a Fergusson Ariva combo box which did exactly what I needed but its for my Grandfather and the remote had tiny buttons, and when he pressed a button he was pressing a few at the same time or holding them down too long (he is in his mid 80's and clueless when it comes to technology).

The box was a pain so I switched it to 2 boxes a walker saorview box and a sky box (Its all I had to hand), the setup was too complicated to switch between the 2 boxes, 3 remotes were required and he was stuck on either saorview or Sat channels.

I decided a new TV was the way to go and its even more complicated to switch between them. TV is an LG 39LN540V and to switch between aeriel and Sat involves pressing about 5 buttons. Straightforward enough but not for him.

The TV has screen issues so it looks like it needs to be returned so I'm open to suggestions for alternatives please.

P.S. There is new software out for the TV but he has no internet so I could not update (need to bring it out on USB stick) so there is a chance that the issue has been resolved with a firmware update but I wont know till the weekend.

I wonder if the Ariva box works and it is just the remote that he is having issues with, could you try a better universal remote like http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/product/harmony-ultimate?crid=60&WT.ac=ps|10832
I have one for a different set up and it works with a range of machines and you can look up to see if it has yours. If it does you can customise it to do the things you most like, a sort of favourites? The one I have is not the fancy touch screen one but it works 99% of the time.
There are discount codes on bargain alerts every now and again for logitech? I am sure there are other brands too.

Ah JD beat me to it!

The Ariva remote had to be replaced actually, I think it burned out with his chubby fingers mashing all the buttons.

Tried a few of the cheaper universal ones but none worked.

I will have a look at other harmony ones.

It has to be completely fool proof with big buttons.

I have no bother spending a few bob if I find a simple solution.

Hi, new to all this. Have the ferguson Ariva 120hd combo. My dad has real trouble with the buttons. tried a cheap universal big button remote but won't work. Does the Flipper version definitely work. In north Donegal, these boxes are very popular even amongst the older folks, any help would be appreciated.

    thanks

    damian.

I just set this up a few days ago and it works alright.

It's fairly straightforward to get working. There are only a few ferguson codes in the manual and I think the second one worked.

Set up the Flipper over the weekend, supplied code worked. Useful that the flipper turns on/off the tv while the other buttons work the stb. I have arranged the channels my dad prefers, so he can now toggle up and down as he needs. thanks for the suggestions, saved the day
