Well its one explanation, about as credible as Bertie's one too.....

Daniel Benson ‏@dnlbenson 34s Michael Rogers suspended by the UCI for positive test for clenbuterol during the Japan Cup.

Fortunately, they're less likely to try to sue us :D

There's a second rider from Crelan after testing positive as well, both riders were in China prior to Japan, so it's more plausible than you may give it credit.

But the UCI may acknowledge the China food chain and all but will it wash given they acknowledged the same for Berite and he still go suspended and striped of title

Could be the end either way for Mick Rodgers.................bloody hell

Expect a long series of appeals.....

The UCI could be on a sticky wicker as it forced all PT teams to race in the Tour of Bejiing.
If Rogers gets banned and can show the clenbuterol probably came from food provided by the race organisers (a branch of the UCI ) only the lawyers can win !

I like Mick Rodgers and I think he is a stand up guy....

If it is Chinese food then I hope they get to the bottom of it

****! I had Chinese on Sunday. And beef as well.
Went for a spin on Monday and felt great
    Even ran down a dog.
Better keep my pee away from the local UCI doctor

Not consistent with the references to him in the USADA reasoned decision and his history of working with Ferrari.

Interesting to see how much was in his system

Not saying that rogers is innocent, but it strikes me as a bit strange to take glenbuteral at that time of the year for that race. Why bother? Its a bit like a diamond thief getting done for shoplifting in a €2 shop.

It's a world tour race which he happened to win; plenty of incentive I would have thought.

Ye maybe, but he wasnt chasing a contract and might be a world tour race but not exactly a big race either. If you are right then he was stupid and greedy.

I'm not speculating whether he intentionally cheated or not; but the one thing I have learnt about doping and dopers is that are absolutely stupid and greedy. The chances they take when you consider the potential risks (of getting caught if nothing else) always baffle me.

Saxo have made a statement re. Mick Rogers - http://teamsaxotinkoff.com/ny_news.asp?lang=uk&n_id=4255
The Australian explained to the team management that he never ingested the substance knowingly nor deliberately and fears that the adverse analytical finding origins from a contaminated food source.

Doesn't really matter whether he was doping or not at the end of the day. He had a banned substance in his system and fully deserves any punishment he gets. If you're an athlete at this level you know you will be drug tested and you need to plan your food intake accordingly.

    from cyclingnews:
Cycling Australia (CA) CEO Adrian Anderson has responded to the provisional suspension of Michael Rogers for a positive clenbuterol test from the Japan Cup, stating the national federation would support a maximum suspension. "CA were alerted of the positive test via the UCI media release this morning," said Anderson. "Whilst we respect Michael Rogers' right to defend himself, we will support the maximum sanctions under the WADA code if he is found guilty of doping."

    It pays to cheat.

    Folks,
I've had to delete some posts. I need to point out that a positive test does not give people carte blanche to:
    • Speculate on whether a rider was doping on other occasions in their career.
    • Speculate about doping practices on teams they rode for in the past.
    • Speculate whether other riders may be covering up doping practices.
In short, please stick to the matter at hand and to verifiable facts.

If you really do feel compelled to make unproven allegations or allusions about people, then get your own website, where you and you alone will be held liable for your comments.

We've had to regularly issue warnings about this. For small minority of posters (usually the same ones), it seems to go in one ear and out the other. Our patience isn't limitless.

On the same day last year when the UCI announced that Michael Rogers (Tinkoff-Saxo) returned a positive test (during the Japan Cup) for clenbuterol, they also announced that Jonathan Breyne (Creylon-Euphony) had a positive test for clenbuterol at the Tour of Taihu Lake.

Both riders took the stance that they had eaten contaminated meat from China.

Anyway, Breyne's positive has been confirmed by the analysis of his B-sample, the UCI announced today.

Make what you will of Breyne's reactions to the B-sample:
“There is 0.000000005 of a gram of clenbuterol per millilitre of urine in the sample,” Breyne told Het Nieuwsblad. “On one hand, I’m unhappy, but on the other hand, I’m relieved that I finally know the results of the counter-analysis. Things are clear now and my lawyer Johnny Maeschalk can start working in earnest on the dossier.”
Rogers still awaits the results of his B-sample.

Looks like he's got off, reports saying the UCI accept his defense that he ate contaminated meat. Loses Japan cup victory but no further sanction.

Seems like the correct decision tbh......

    UCI press release
Upon careful analysis of Mr Rogers’ explanations and the accompanying technical reports the UCI found that that there was a significant probability that the presence of clenbuterol may have resulted from the consumption of contaminated meat from China – where he had taken part in a race before travelling to Japan.
As a result, the UCI has proceeded with the automatic disqualification of Mr Rogers’ results at the 2013 Japan Cup Cycle Road Race (the competition during which the positive sample was taken) but, after consulting WADA, decided that he should not be sanctioned any further.
