Ford Focus 2008 losing petrol?

Just a quick one, maybe it's my imagination, but I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this. I got some petrol yesterday and the 'distance left' gauge said I could go another 260km with what's left in the tank. Between yesterday and today I've driven the grand total of 3.6 km, but it now says I can go only 240km with what's left in the tank. Faulty gauge maybe? Or is that just an estimate and not to be taken literally anyway? The car is a Ford Focus 2008 1.6 petrol.

    Thanks

Those gauges are always just a guide and are not exactly accurate. If it went from 260 to 140 then Id worry.

The computer constantly recomputes the current range using the amount of fuel in the tank and the current driving conditions. Were those 3.6km slow, low-geared urban stuff?

Trip computer accuracy is not to be taken as gospel, they are an estimation at best.

its just an estimate from the cars ECU. It will take a while for the car to compare the amount left in the tank to distance driven. its always very inaccurate just after a fill.

They are never all that useful at all really, accuracy is generally not great.

Thanks. Yes, the 3.6km would've just been around town. I'll keep an eye on it, see if anything happens.
