    Hi all,

Hoping to have a look at a 2001 VW Polo in the next couple of days.

I am clueless about cars and have no one to accompany me when inspecting it so wondered if there are any common problems known for these models that I should specifically look out for?

    Thank you,
    magicmushroom

I know the electric power steering gives bother in later model, don't think its same in the 6N. The engines are pretty prone to burning oil. See what it starts like from cold, listen for worn out tappets. Rust could be setting in on a 01 so look around arches, lower members and sills. It is an old car so everything will be worn at this stage! A fresh NCT should be a good indictaion of the running gear.

Failed or blocked oxygen sensors can be common problems on them also. Other things to watch out for too is dampness in the passenger footwell due to the drains getting blocked.

Really though, you are looking at a nearly 13 year old car, a lot will depend on the individual car itself and how it was cared for.
