I keep getting these calls from an Indian guy saying he is from Microft windows dept and is looking at my screen and is aware of some problems my system is experiencing that I am unaware of. I have repeatedly told him I am in no way, shape or form connected to the internet, a lie of course.

Has anyone had similar calls and what are they up to, money is my guess.

This is a scam. Microsoft themselves have come out publicly a number of times to alert the public about this - just hang up.

Depends, sometimes they are just after a payment to "fix" your computer. I've also heard of them getting their mark to download software in order to "fix" their computer, except the fix is actually malware itself, so you end up infecting your own machines and they can use them for other nefarious purposes.

Have fun with them and completely waste their time, then after a few mins of stringing along tell them you're using a macbook.

I spoke to someone recently who had fallen for this. You'd want to be awful thick.

My parents got suckered by this. He charged them £35 for ms security essential set it up to run in the foreground whilst he opened up a browser, setup a western union account and transferred £125 to himself.

Fortunately I rang them whilst this was going on and they managed to cancel the payment and got western union to stop the payment.

Their customer service skills are appalling. I had one yesterday, he told me to 'fcuk off you cnut' and hung up within thirty seconds. How is he ever going to scam anybody with that type of attitude?

I've found that if you give them your nank details stright away, thaey stop calling.

i do follow exactly what they tell me to do, the guy is very patient with me as we troubleshoot but I don't have the heart to tell him I don't have a computer...

    I'm so lonely

Got a call from the parents yesterday saying Ronnie from Glasgow had called on behalf of Microsoft but that Ronnie sounded very Indian. Fortunately Ronnie was told his help wasn't needed.

In years to come you'll look back and realise this is the point you should have put both of them in a home.

If you're a bloke, tell him he sounds sexy and ask him what he's wearing.

The general rule is 'anyone on the phone with an Indian accent is a conman, this applies at all times, even to members of the emergency services'.

But my house is burning sir, whatever shall I do ... yeah yeah likely story.
