Right so i signed up for a bin company that told me i could pay for my bins whenever i leave them out,so i thought great as im a single guy i often skipped every month only to find that they have been charging me for those months even though i had no bin stickers and therefor could not get my bins collected, anyway i told them i wasnt paying the money and to basically **** off.

Then i signed up for a 3 month contract with another company who after the 3 month contract expired sent me out no new stickers yet kept demanding that i pay them for services i didnt receive, originally i was planning on having the 3 month contract and then i would renew it once the bin needed emptying but now they cancelled my account and are threatening seeking legal action against me.

How can these companies charge for services they didnt provide????

If sky your contract with sky runs out or your not receiving services they dont charge you,its the same same with the esb etc,how can bin companies get away with this.

You'll never pay just for the collection. There will be a fee and then additional charges on top of that for every collection.

As far as I am aware, there is no bin company that doesn't charge a basic service charge that has to be paid regardless of any collection of waste.

Have you considered setting up a boards.ie account and posting it to the "humour" section - After Hours? Wait you've done that. Eh, street protest?

With AWD (Wicklow) you can just buy one of their bags or tags from a shop and leave it out with the rubbish, and that's that.

Curious to know what bin company offered you a 3 month contract? Are you sure it wasn't 3 months free?

Oxigen they have since removed the 3 month contract from their site and replaced it with ''pay by use'

Thorntons. Individual collections are expensive though.

    Wasn't aware of that!

I probably meant wheelie bin companies.

Really? I didn't think they did for domestic users anyway and no mention of it on their website.

You can get a pay as you go card with some of them and they will only collect your bin when you have enough credit to cover it.

Phone and broadband companies are notorious for charging people whether they are getting service or not. Once you sign a contract you owe them whether you get anything or not and its one hell of a pain in the hole to try get the better of them when it happens.

I luckily have never experienced this, although i once owed upc tv 140e and when i decided to pay it i rang them to explain that i was going to pay them 90e off it that week and asked them not to cancel my card, and they said wouldnt.

anyway i paid the 90e and on that very same day i lost my channels,i rang them and said ''you promised me you wouldnt cancel my card'' to which they replied ''oh its not cancelled sir its suspended'' ...............after that i never paid the remaining balance!!!
