Video for my website

    Hi all,

I offer a niche professional service. Most users of the service want the end product but don't understand what's required for there to be a high quality end product. The subject matter of my service is quite technical and 'boring' for most people so most potential clients won't take the time to read long winded copy on my website.

To address this a photographer I know suggested doing a short 2 minute video where I answer some questions which potential clients will typically have as this would:-

    a) allow them to quickly determine if the service I offer is right for them.
    b) allow me to demonstrate my knowledge of the subject matter and gain their confidence
    c) present me in a friendly and approachable manner to encourage them to make contact

We shot the video and it's front and centre on the homepage of my website but I'm not happy with it. The way it is shot makes me look like a talking head (it's shoulders and head only) and I'm way too stiff in it. It just looks too staged and unnatural.

I'm hoping to get two things from my fellow Boardsies on this Forum:--

    1. If any of you have examples of videos used on professional services type websites (accountants, solicitors etc) which present the person in a friendly, confident and knowledgable manner I'd appreciate links to same.

    2. Recommendations for photographers/videographers who specialise in short corporate videos for online use. I'm Dublin based so something in or around the Pale would be preferable.

I'm still confident that a well presented video in terms of content and execution can be a big asset to my online marketing efforts but right now I feel the current video I have is actually being counter productive and is putting people off as the conversion rates I'm getting from visitors to the site are very low especially as you have to be looking for this niche service to be on the site in the first place.

I'm sure I'll be asked to link to my current site but I'm too embarrassed to to that so it won't be happening :o

Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Ben

Thanks Riona and Happy Christmas to you.

Do you mean this service? http://www.videoscribe.co? It looks good.

Can you PM me links to the videos you produced for your service? I'd like to see what you were able to do.

Like you say, a good video will be an effective tool to sell your service. To get a good video, you need to storyboard it, script it, shoot it, edit and post produce it. Point and click and hoping for the best will rarely work out. Most well-produced promos are precisely engineered and practiced until they look natural, but that needn't mean great expense. I have some contacts, but am in the wrong part of the country.
