Reading the latest news reports on social housing needs ,
90+ thousand need housing nothing new there ,
But it looks like rent allowance will now be transferred to local authorities to deal with and issues payments which could could be a big change,

Landlord wise apparently they are planning to start trials of making direct payments to the landlord in the future

AFAIK the rental accommodation schemes set up by each county council was the start of the process of making the councils responsible for covering housing provision and payment.

This could be a positive move if it increases the number of landlords that will accept it.

Payments already go direct to the landlord if that is what is required

sadly doubtful as the real reasons for refusal are that we are on social welfare at all. therefore automatically undesirables.. there have been some very vehement threads on that issue...

The main reasons for refusal is that the landlord gets paid in arrears and the money is given to the tenant to give to the landlord.
Some tenants haven't passed on this money to the landlord and combined with it being paid in arrears, have led them to stop accepting rent allowance.
By giving the money directly to the landlord, the landlord will have more security over the rent leading them to be more likely to accept the RA.

Lastly a landlord can decide who he/she wants to rent too. If they don't want you as a tenant for whatever reason, then tough, there's plenty of landlords who will have you as a tenant.

Plus rent allowance particularly in dublin is not much as the open market value of house / apt rental
