    Hi
Just wondering how much i'd get off if i traded in my 2007 Mazda 6 (IIRC there's about 90-100k km on it). No problems, very good condition.
I noticed that these are going for at least 4500 (up to 6-7 K) on CBG etc.
Would 5k be a fair price do you think.
    Thanks.

5k off list depending on the car you are buying you would expect 8-10% discount for cash. So a 5k trade offer may only be worth 3k. You may be better selling privately for 4.5 if in good shape.

Oh can I ask a very similar question...

    I have a 2008 Mazda 6.
    141,000 km
    Automatic
    Black
    2lt petrol

I'll be looking to trade it in against a car worth about 15k in the bew year sometime and was wondering how much they'd give me roughly for mine so I know roughly what sort of personal loan if need to get to pay the rest in cash.

Last time I saw an auto one on CBG it was goin for just under 9k.

I know it's petrol and people want diesel but the auto surely adds value.

It's not the brand new model obviously but it's the newer shape even though its an '08.

    Cheers

if you sold privately (with out knowing the condition of the car) you would probably get about €5-6k max. Therefore if you are trading in for a car with a sticker price of about €15k the dealer would probably offer you 6k for your car giving a cost of change of about €9k. However, if you sold privately and got €6k for your car you could negotiate a cash discount of about €1k from the dealer and your cost to change would be about €8k

What people ask for their cars and what they actually get for them are two totally different things.

No offense but just look at how many new petrol automatic Mazda 6s are sold here. I'd say you can count them on one hand, they were not popular so will be even less popular second hand. So a dealer has to buy it cheap as he will probably expect it to be on his forecourt for a while. I'd say it is worth about €6000 to €6500, manual 6s can be bought very cheap these days, people will only pay a premium for an auto if it is from one of the more prestige brands.

Also people concentrate too much on what they are offered for their trade-in while forgetting about the price of the car they are buying. Dealers can offer great trade-in prices for your old car to make the deal look very attractive while overpricing the other car. The important figure to focus on is how much they want to trade up.
