Never heard of this "VERBATIM" brand before, so don't know how reliable it is, but 2TB USB 3.0 HD for €73 delivered. Not too bad.

Also have 3 and 4 TB available!

They're a real premium brand when it comes to rewritable CDs and DVDs, don't know anything about their hard drives though.

Verbatim were THE brand back in the days of 3.5" floppies. They did indeed have a factory in Limerick, a lot of the workers are now working in Dutec on the dock road.

They are a quality brand, have a few 2.5" given to people. Never checked the drive inside but it will most likely be a WD or Seagate.

I've an older 2TB eSATA 3Gbits/USB 2.0 drive and it's never given any trouble. That's Limerick craftsmanship for ya... :P

HDTune identifies the disk as Hitachi, but that doesn't necessarily mean this newer one is, I suppose...

I've used 100s of Verbatim DVDs and haven't had a bad one yet – great brand IMO.

Does anyone know if this is USB powered ie. "portable" or powered via a plug? Can't seem to find anything on that page.

Uses an AC adapter - http://www.verbatim-europe.co.uk/en_1/product_store-n-save-superspeed-usb-3-0-desktop-hard-drive-2tb_9566_0_35879.html

The question that really matters. VERBATIM don't manufacture hard drives, so should be interesting to see what brand the enclosure actually houses.

Yeah, it was between Verbatim, TDK and 3M. Those were the days... :) How young are you sleepysniper?

I still have 3M floppies stored away (with Windows 3.11 on 11 or so floppies haha).

From what I can see online, the Verbatim drives either have a Samsung drive in them or a Seagate Barracuda.

An old review from Amazon, but this person expected to see a Samsung drive and saw the Barracuda:

Even some Samsung-branded models now contain Seagate drives — like the D3 station mentioned here.

What's the difference between the Store n Save & the Store n Go pardon my ignorance in this. Thanks.

Store 'n' Go Portable External Hard Drive - 1 TB, silver, USB 3.0, Self-powered
This is a slimmer, smaller drive (about the size of a large smartphone) that's powered via the USB cable. It's built around a 2.5" disk like you'd find in a laptop. Portable drives are more expensive (per terabyte of space) but a lot handier if you need to carry your stuff around with you.

The 3.5" Store 'n' Save is a bigger drive that has to be plugged into a mains socket, so is better suited to use as an additional storage/backup device that's going to be mostly left attached to a desktop computer.

Thanks, as i was wondering what they meant whenever i came across them.

As i was looking for a back up to a Medion Ext HD 500GB USB3.0 i got out of Aldi a while back.

I also got a Verbatim 16GB Micro USB Drive out of Lidl & not often this happens but recently it takes for ages to copy files over to the 16GB & i think i read somewhere in my Samsung Bluray manual that i can hook up an ext HDD to it? I havent had time to look thru it all yet, as over the next week i will.

As that will save me time with the 16GB if i can use the Ext HD?

Btw i couldnt find any info on the Store n Go on the Verbatim website?
