High-speed broadband is core to our competitiveness. As a knowledge and services oriented economy trading worldwide, our workforce needs to be better connected than most. Ensuring fast connectivity is not only about jobs – it is also increasingly a conduit for all aspects of modern society – citizen- ship, education, healthcare, learning, culture and leisure. Building on the National Broadband Plan, “Delivering a Connected Society” (August 2012), the Government will in 2014 announce full details of the State‘s investment plan to bring high-speed broadband to less populated parts of the country which will not be serviced by the commercial market. Rollout of services based on this investment will commence in 2015.

The government will build on it being sunny on Tuesday in 2014...based on the current nonsense coming out of the DECNR as Dail "answers" nothing of any value whatsoever will happen.

Just like the much touted "Exemplar" network which was to showcase Ireland as being at the forefront of high speed fibre optic technology, after all their promises to invest and build up to attract FDI, lots of jobs and create high speed broadband for all, the main company leading the technology behind it, Intune Networks, today went into receivership:
