I'm not sure if this is the right forum so apologies if it's not but does anyone have any reccommendations for an alternative New Year's Eve going on anywhere around the country. I am sick of the pubbin' and clubbin' scene but don't want to sit in either i'd love to do something a bit weird and wonderful to ring in the New Year but I can't seem to find anything online, anyone got any ideas?

When the clock hits midnight, sacrifice a goat to the Sun God.

    Alternative enough for you?

It's a long time since I went to a bar or club on New Years eve. It's the messiest night of the year, you couldn't pay me enough to go out that night. When we used to live in York we'd go to York Minster for the countdown. There used to be thousands of people all heading in that direction, reminded me of the pied piper of Hamlin.

Nothing like -3 temperatures to keep your champagne cold. Drinking champagne from a bottle was like adult kn*cker drinking, expensive kn*cker drinking:D

I never liked the idea of having to go out on NYE.

    Throw a house party.

At least you're not being charged €20 to get into some cattle mart where you can't move, and when you do get to the bar you'll be charged €7-€8 for a pint of slop.

Sure, throw a house party, but only if you live in a detached property. Nobody living in a terraced house wants to listen to people getting wrecked. I just spent last weekend listening to gob*hites next door to me fcuked out of their minds I don't want to start the new year listening to it. Frankly, if people wanna stay up all night partying a nightclub is the place to do it.

Yay, it's pallindromic! So even The Backwards Man should get it right. :D

It was such a relief when I had kids (and therefore couldn't get a babysitter NYE) and was finally able to admit that I fucking hated going out on NYE and have an excuse not to do so.

I'm going to sit at home and start a thread here about the appalling state of supermarket meat. That's my prediction, might turn out differently.

There's some kind of Druidic re-birthing ceremony going on near me (north Clare), bonfire where they burn symbols from the past year that they want to let go, everyone bollocking on about the old year and the new one. I'm not sure but I'd assume there's a drugmming circle too. You did say alternative like :p

I also hate going out on New Year's Eve. And Stephen's Day. And Paddy's Day. And Guinness day. Any day they tell me to go out and pissed I don't like, they're the worst nights because it's so packed and messy and everyone just agrees to pretend it's great craic because of the day on the stupid calendar. I'll go get pissed and roar me head off at 2pm on a Tuesday in April or something when I can get to the bloody bar and the place isn't covered in **** and vomit and fake tan and organised revelry.

No, NYE is a day in 2013, not 2014. It's the eve of 2014.

Cardiff is a constant cattle mart. Not just in night clubs. Just everywhere. All the time.

I've always wanted to rent a house out in the middle of no where, load of friends, have a huge dinner and a massive party all night. Then a huge fry up the next morning before going off mountain biking or swimming or something.
