So, the missus tried to start the car a few times during the day today. It wouldn't start. She said it sounded like it was trying to turnover but wouldn't start(my words, not hers). So I came home from work with a friend to jump start it. I opened the car, noticed the internal light came on so gave it a try..…...and it started first time!

So anybody have any ideas why it wouldnt have started during the day but would for me in the evening?

Isn't this usually a good sign of the battery being at fault?

Also, whats the car make / model / engine? Was it low on fuel?

    Get a new battery

Sounds like the starter motor was working so I wouldn't immediately think of the battery.

Are there any engine management lights on?

Could be useful to get a scan.

Don't worry OP, there's plenty of threads in this forum where big burly men asks the exact same question - and it's usually the battery on its way out, the cold will play havoc with old batteries.
Some jokers just can't help themselves when they hear the word "woman".

Tbh it could be anything. Try it again tomorrow morning and keep an eye on it.

    Sorry

Nissan note, 1.4 petrol 2007. Also it had about a quarter tank of petrol too

Started fine this morning (much colder today!)

Not saying its not your battery, given the time of year and possibility that the battery is the original one. But I've had similar issues in the past with a newish battery, it might be damp or condensation in ignition parts after a coldish windy wet night. I pulled off the leads for the spark plugs and spray both ends with WD40. Sprayed some round the distributor too. Worked for me, problem didnt repeat.

In my case the car first failed to start after a trickle.charge then a jump start from a land cruiser so I was pretty sure it wasn't lack of battery power!

got the car back from service just before christmas. Garage said the battery was fine and it was probably old spark plugs being the cause.

highly unlikely the battery was the culprit. If that was the case it wouldn't of started for you later in the day.
