Ideally cover in your extension with whats on the existing house CG. In some cases thats not possible, budget/sourcing old tiles/slates(can be expensive) to match. But as close to a possible match will be more pleasing to the eye.
What has your carpenter spaced the roof battens at? That will determine what you fit. 12 inch(300mm)approx centers its a will be concrete tiles. 10 inch(250mm)approx centers will work for a 24x 12inch slate be it quarry/man made.

What did it state on your planning application?
If planning wasn't applied for then the exemption legislation calls for you to match the finishes of the house
