Car wheel make strange sound when locked to the right

Whenever I fully lock the steering to the right to make slow/tight turns the wheel makes this strange sound. It sounds like the tyre is slightly rubbing against something in the wheel well.

It appears to be the left wheel and only when making right turns with the steering fully locked.
I mentioned it to my mechanic, but when he took it out to test it he didn't hear anything strange, and said its most likely nothing.

Aside from that theres no other problems at all with steering.

Any idea what it could be?

Interestingly my girlfriend is having the exact same issue with her car. I have no car and know nothing about them but this noise started happening and driving her mad.

She has a Nissan Juke only a year old, took it to the mechanic and the first time he said 'it was grand they all go like that'! She went back again and the boss looked at it and said they needed to order some part for it which she's waiting on now - I'll try and find out what it was tomorrow if no-one more useful comes along to this thread

It's more than likely your arch lining rubbing on the wheel. Meaning it must be loose.
Check in the arch for scrub marks on the lining and that'll tell you, try to see if it's broken or just loose!

Some power steering modules on certain cars can make unusual sounds at full lock. It could be just run of the mill full lock sounds from the module nothing to be concerned about.

Does it only occur at full lock ?

I doubt very much it's a cv joint given that the car is only a year old.

Edit; it's another posters car that's a year old not the OPs...... Oops my bad,

In my experience, a failed CV joint makes a clack clack clack noise rather than a rubbing noise.

    It could be actual rubbing.
    What car?
    What wheel size?
Get a mech to put it on a lift and then rotate wheel during full lock.

    Hi Just bumping this.

    2000 Ford Fiesta
    Wheel size 165/60 R14

Mech said he saw nothing when it was up on the lift. But I have a feeling it just wasnt doing it that day, because as I said above when we went for a spin and locked it there was no sound for some reason. (the one bloody time:rolleyes:)

I had a look in the wheel well, and I cant see any visible marks or damage. I'm just afraid its something bad thats gonna break any day.
