Best drink for the thirst?

What do you reach for when you're absolutely parched with the thirst?

This isn't a "just-thought-of-a-topic-for-a-thread" thread; I was actually talking about this earlier and my better half swears by a can of Coke or Club Lemon, while I always think water is the only way to cure thirstyness.

Even when we go out to the pub, if I'm thirsty, I'll get a water before I order a proper drink

My Dad would always reach for a bottle of Bulmers: says it's the only way to cut through the dryness.

    What about you?

1 table-spoon of organically grown Valerian root liquid, does the trick. Don't even think of driving after this.

Water is the only thing that does the job for me. One Sunday morning recently enough, I woke up with a raging hangover, blindly stumbled to the kitchen and filled a pint glass with ice and water. There was so much ice in it when I went to take a drink, the ice cubes were massaging my poor hungover nose. It was lovely

The still warm blood of a freshly killed unicorn. That or a single plum floating in perfume served in a man's hat.

Water, any drink with sugars of any kind will just lead to you becoming thirsty again soon.
Alcohol is quite clearly not going to get a thirst off you, since it dehydrates you it's going to do the opposite.

Pint glass, half filled with Smirnoff Ice and the rest with Heineken. Fling that down you as use the other half of the bottle to have another one. Thirst gone...until the following morning!

Water. If you're really parched, sparkling water. I don't know why but it takes the edge off.

    Sparkling water.

I can drink as much as I want of the still stuff, I still feel parched afterwards. A glass of sparkling water always does the trick.

Plain water, not added colours or sweeteners.

This isn't quite true. Anything low, say< 10% alcohol content is more likely to have a net hydrating effect due to the quantity of water contained.

Of course since most of us aren't actually very dehydrated to begin with we invariably end up pissing the extra water out anyway, regardless of the diuretic effect of the alcohol

Fizzy water. I could drink gallons of that shizzle. Great fizzy drink replacement. I think I'll treat myself to a glass right now, in fact! Why the hell not, says you, wha!

I don't know why people do this. You wouldn't do it with beer.

It makes the Cider taste watery. Far too many bars have started doing it as standard :(

Drink faster. ;) (No seriously, don't)

I like ice in my cider. It surely helps with the hangover to get that bit of extra water in, also makes (and keeps) your drink super cold, which I like.

Your husband is right, club lemon is the best ever cure for the thirst. Cuts right through it and really hits the back of your throat. Dying for a can now.

    Club Rock Shandy

If I remember correctly the scientifically correct answer is actually a cup of tea due to it's isotonic properties and it's heat being closer to body temperature than chilled water and so faster for the body to process. There was something about tea being included in military mess kits for this reason (to the exclusion of coffee since that has diuretic influences).

Not serious answer: ice cold diet coke is the only thing for me when I'm hungover

That aloe vera drink is the business when you're gasping. Nothing else compares.
