Hi, Just wanted to get a bit of advice,

I was planning to upgrade my car with 'BG Autos', they are located in Naas Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 12. On the 11th of Nov we made a trade in deal with sales man Brian who I think runs the place. The car I was buying was a UK import, I put down a deposit and all on that day. The dealer told me that he would have to put it through the VRT which sounded normal to me and told me it would be ready for the following week, he told me that the timing belt needed to be done and it would be all done before I collect it. When I arrived the following week the day we arranged he told me he forgot to ring me and that he needed to wait on the log book from the UK and he should have it by the end of the week.
Following week I rang him and he told me that it would then be ready by the end of the week, I asked if the timing belt had been done, he told me that it didn't need done for another 10k, and if I wanted it to be done I'd have to pay half the money which I agreed in the end even though he told me it would be done as part of the original deal. The car again wasn't ready by the end of the week. I had to keep following up with phone calls and texts as he told me he would phone me back and never did. At the end of the week he told me he would have it ready the following week and yet still no car! They have been a nightmare to deal with. I've since went out and bought another car with another dealer and the VRT was done the same day I bought the car as it was also a UK import!

It took BG Autos 4 weeks and counting and I'm still waiting! Will never do business with them after this experience! It doesn't make sense why they treated me in this way. The money was in the bank. They lost out on a sale! Im going in to them tomorrow to collect my deposit!

I have no idea what BG Autos are like but that whole area, the Ballymount Triangle, is the last place I would go to buy a car. Just way too many dodgy places have been based there for the last 15-20 years or so. If I were going into the motor sales trade, it is the last area in Dublin I would want to set up in.

Thanks for heads up! Bought in Swords in the end :)

You might lose your deposit,(I hope not)or have a job getting it all back, but it might be the least worst option.

You think? At the end of the day he was the one that didn't hold up his end of the deal. I have a written out receipt for the deposit.

I looked at their website , they look substantial enough with nice stock and showroom , you should be ok. Good luck.

Thats what I thought when I went in there! But all their stock seems to be imports, didnt think anything of it at the time, but there has to be more to it why he didn't sell me the car! Very strange set up! The more I think about it he seems dodgy

How much was the deposit and how did you pay. If you used a credit card or some debit cards your bank may be able to get this back for you. Goodle "chargeback credit card" for more details.

In fairness the VRT messing about is bad enough but to go back on the deal with the timing belt is even worse. They agreed to do this as it's almost imminent, no way would I accept to pay for that (especially as it sounds like you're spending quite a lot, it's not like it's a 1k car!).
That will likely run into 100s extra for you.

I had put down a deposit with BG Autos earlier in the year and while waiting for the vrt to be completed I decided to phone VW in the UK to check the cars mileage.

Despite the car having a cartell check and a "full service history" the car had a significantly altered mileage. Ended up going in and getting my deposit back and going over to the UK myself to pick up a car.

Personally I wouldn't go near any UK import in Ireland. Best to go get the car yourself.

Did you report that matter to anyone? Thats classed as fraud from what I gather! He should not be getting away with it!

No I didn't want the hassle. I just got my deposit back and left.
Besides when I told them the car had been clocked he just shrugged his shoulders and said well it wasn't done by us and that it was such a clean motor.

I subsequently seen the car advertised again with a different mileage altogether!

Fairplay for copping that! I'll learn from my mistakes!

Bit extreme. There are some good specialist companies who source good cars from the UK. Dodgy ones too of course but there are some good ones.

What did they say when you told them about the mileage being "different" i.e clocked?
They don't sound like the kind that give deposits back to people too easily...

They didn't say much and I didn't ask too many questions. I just provided them with copies of my correspondence with VW in the UK. Basically a full complete service history of the vehicle and the mileage from the last service 6 weeks previously. The last service by VW in the UK recorded 146,000 miles. The car was reading 68,000 miles.

Once I showed him this he just handed me my deposit back. That was it.

Truely shocking. Curious myself as I think I may have bought a clocked car myself about 4/5 years ago too. I was young and naive and just took their word for it (a UK S40), was in super nick etc...when I bought it there was supposedly a FSH which I did not question. They (well known s kildare used dealer that shall remain nameless) said when I bought the car they'd post it out to me. What i recieved was just some incomprehensible printout with dates/milleages on it. i.e no dealer stamps or anything. As I said was young/naive and just didn't bother going back questioning it (car was bought at this stage and going fine).
Car did give trouble after it came out of warranty; I've no actual proof it was clocked but a hunch really and hindsight.
Lucky for you too, that's an enormous gap.
In future no way would be so silly, would want to see and inspect the "FSH" upfront before cash changes hand.

In truth I wouldn't even trust the service book in the car as these can be faked or altered. (In my case it was) You need to take lots of photos of the vehicles service book, VIN etc and do your homework by phoning dealers in the UK.
If you can't get a 100% history on the vehicle then best to walk away.

Also viewed a car there last weekend. Was not impressed by the sales guy. Seemed great to start with but we just didn't get a good feel for the place.

We had a trade-in and he was trying to justify the bad price he was willing to pay us by telling us it costs money to advertise the car on their website. Won't be going back...

I've often drove past the sign and wondered is it another Bill Griffin garage? BG Autos

I bought a car from Noel Keegan car sales in 2011. They operated from the same premises as BG autos. Are they the same people rebranded?

I dealt with a guy called terry who in fairness was sound out and did his best to rectify an issue I had with the car.
