    Yes, definitely get a solicitor.

I'm not sure what the charges are, but depending on the overall circumstances, you may be entitled to legal aid. That's one issue - the summons.

Afterwards, the underlying problem needs to be sorted out with the Revenue Commissioners. You can ask your solicitor to do it, or you could ask an accountant to sort it out. If you rang the Revenue Commissioners and spoke to them, you could possibly sort it out yourself, but this has not happened over the previous eight years, so maybe consider handing it over to somebody else now.

Let the solicitors/accountants worry about these problems. That's what they do.

Can i just show up in court without legal representation and ask for legal aid?

I would arrange for a solicitor prior to the hearing. Ring around local solicitors for the area and ask if they do legal aid. You appear to have sat on this for eight years so you should really start dealing with it as soon as possible.

Whilst this could well be possible, it's not the ideal way to go, really. It would be better to choose your solicitor, hand over the summons, and then there can be some preparation before Wednesday.

I'd suggest ringing to find a solicitor tomorrow.
