    Hi all,

Am booking a short weekend/midweek break for my parents as a present, trouble is I don't know where to send them off to. They are in their late 40s

I've been looking from around April - June. I have looked at Edinburgh, London and Prague, all of which have cheap flights but not accommodation I can afford! I would be willing to look at a nice b & b if anyone can recommend one or if anyone can recommend a good place outside of Ireland?

    Thanks!

Have a look at the Tune Hotels in Edinburgh & London..they are very reasonable and well located. Edinburgh probably would be better as there's only one airport and it's very convenient for the centre.

B&Bs in the UK are often more expensive than 3* hotels

Thanks, they seem quite nice and reasonably priced :)

Stayed in the one in Edinburgh for Hogmanay last year and I was really pleasantly surprised. The aircoach from the airport stops 30 seconds away and it's in a great location for walking to the sights.

Another place you could consider is Liverpool.
Ryanair fly to Liverpool. They could also go by bus and boat with bus eireann.

If you go into http://www.visitliverpool.com you can get tourist information.

I was in Liverpool once. It is a very easy city to find your way around. It has plenty of things to see and do. The main tourist area is around the Albert docks. I stayed in a travelodge - the stand hotel, liverpool L2 00P which is just across the road from here and the shops are just a few mins walk away.
You can buy breakfast in the hotel or there is a tesco's next door.

Travelodge are basic hotels but they offer good value if you book them in advance. www.travelodge.co.uk.
If you put in discount codes for travelodge into google you may get discount codes to make your trip cheaper.

Don't stay in the Tune Hotels, they are pretty terrible. Imagine the Ryanair of hotels, every thing is an additional charge, the wifi, the tv, the aircon, you even have to pay for extra towels.

I had the misfortune to book a Tune Hotel this year in Asia (Philippines Makati, Manila) for 5 nights and whilst the base rate was cheap by the time I had paid for the add-ons which are normally provided it came to even more than a normal hotel rate. However despite all this my absolute biggest hate was that the room was so tiny, like 8ft X 10ft and it felt like I was sleeping in a coffin it was so small.

Tune Hotel is owned by Air Asia and is very much of the low-cost policy, with tiny rooms and minimal services. There is absolutely no way I'd subject myself to the torture of one of their tiny rooms never mind subjecting my much beloved parents to such a hellish experience. Each morning I would trip over my suitcase as the bed was against the wall on one side and there was literally no other space to store the suitcase except the bathroom!

check out the premier Inns in London...there are plenty of them. Stayed in one in Edgeware and it was fab, large room, super staff and great food, and beside the tube station , and it was only a little over a hundred pounds sterling for two people...

Asian & UK hotels within the chain are very different..I was pleasantly surprised with their UK hotels. I stay in a lot of 4 and 5 star hotels around the world but for London & Edinburgh I see no point in paying for luxury hotels when you're out and about all the time. In particular the Tune in Edinburgh, our room was spacious, there was storage under the beds and towels came as standard. We didn't add any extras as we didn't need them and didn't miss anything.

If you look at the photos on Trip Advisor you will see that the UK and Scotland hotel rooms are every bit as tiny as their Asian counterparts.
