Door Handle Spring

    Hi,

I'm trying to fix a door handle. So far I've removed it from the door and managed to prise off the horseshoe shaped clips that hold the spring in. Does anyone know where I can get a spring like in the attached picture? The picture is of the spring from the other handle on the door (not the broken one)

I've seen places that will make springs for you, but they want to charge a minimum of £50!!

Buy another door handel , check out the cheap ones, as they often have the same spring. As you'll be buying a pair you might as well replace the one in the opposite handle. Due to the fact handle relys on three springs to get it back up. Springs in the door lock + the two handles.

You didn't give any dimensions of the coil, but you might want to try here

I used them last week for a spring for an old black antique style handle. The springs worked fine, but you do really need to buy a pair of external circlip pliers to put the circlip back on (this is the 'horseshoe shaped clip' you refer to in your post). The website has fitting instructions that give you an idea of what's involved. Buying a new handle is the other option of course. By the time you've bought circlip pliers and the springs you're probably looking at about £10. If you can find a matching replacement handle for under £20 I think I would just replace it like scudo2 suggests!

By the way - the springs are handed so if you do decide to buy replacement springs make sure you get the coil wound round the same way as your broken one!

Thanks for the posts. The website hotwheeler mentioned has almost exactly the same spring. My spring measures 23mm diameter and they have one 22.5mm diameter. I can't believe that 0.5mm makes much difference so I'm going to give it a go. If I can fix this handle I know I can fix the others around the house if they fail. I'll post back to let you know if its worked (hopefully the springs will arrive before Christmas!):)
