Cleaning very dirty glass

A couple years ago I got a new windscreen, this has been left on my old car while it's used as storage. Over the past 2yrs a lot of dirt and what not has landed on the glass.

I'm just wondering what would be best to clean it without getting scratches on it? I have various different soaps, iron-x, glass cleaning products I can use, I was just going to throw them all at it before washing it down with a wash mitt. Maybe I'm being over cautious? I just hate scratches in glass :P

Using fairy liquid as a once off will get them good and clean. Then any standard glass cleaning product and finally IPA to get them totally clean.

Gtechniq G1 is great for keeing them clean after but I have had bad experiences with it on the windscreen so would just use it on the other windows. The prob with the windscreen for me was that the wipers would skip across the surface instead of the normal smooth action.

Some of the below is great for the seals around the windows. Especially after using a harsh cleaner like fairy liquid on the glass/seals.

Tried that stuff and it left horrible black lines on the paintwork where it ran once it rained.

Fairly liquid isn't as harsh as has been made out to be. If it's made to be gentle on skin, it's not going to be harsh on much after that.

The issue with your wipers after G1 is something everyone experiences after applying it. It goes away after a while but using something like 303 wiper blade treatment revives the rubber on wiper blades and all is good again :D

Cheers guys. I'll get the fairy liquid out along with glass cleaner. I think I have some 303  Bought so much that I haven't used because of no car for to long I can't remember what I have :o

Moisturiser is made to be kind on skin but yet it eats through the paint on a car. Sun cream like-wise.

For glass it would be fine but if you use it on paint it will strip your sealants and waxes without a doubt. Personally I wouldn't use it near the car at all but that is personal opinion and I know a lot of people that swear by it.

Don't worry, glass will be cleaned of the car before it goes in/on the car.

I have some nanolex window stuff, I'm assuming it's much the same a the gtechniq, I was going to use it on the windscreen but if it means the wipers have a hard time it's prob not ideal?

I'm just going by a fairly well put together post by TomMc here where he gives reasons as to why it's not as bad as people make out. He also says that he used it on cars with protection and it didn't strip anything.

I suppose though there's a lot of variables at work too!

Would it not make claying easier?

Oh yes, for a car that you are going to clay, polish and protect it wouldn't be so bad to use it, but for washing a car in it weekly without putting on protection, you will dry the oils out of the paint which will dull the paintwork over time and eventually lead to bad oxidation, and in frosty weather, this can lead to peeling and lifting of the clear coat around stone chips, scratches and repaired panels
