Hi I have to prime plasterboard coving (new)and a freshly skimmed wall prior to painting. I'm guessing polybond will do for both. Any suggestions?

Yep, don't use polybond or a PVA. The plaster & plaster board is very dry and a mistake a lot of people make is to just paint it and because the surface is so dry the water is sucked out of the leading the paint to flake. Polybond or PVA creates a surface coating for the paint to go onto but doesn't help matters much. The right way to do it is water down your first coat of paint by 20%/30%. You don't need to be overly precise with the amount of water you use in the first coat, the more the better. Leave it to dry and then paint as normal. This will give you the best finish.
Note: make sure to knock off any little lumps of plaster before painting, they'll be hard to see but will stick out quite a bit once painted.
