    Hi guys,
I would like to bring my father to a GP, he has been watching the sport for years but never been to an actual race.
He's about to touch 60 and camping would not be his style.

Can anyone advise of which race we should go to?
Taking into account cost (so not monaco), his age (so access to the track without standing in a line for hours) and that we would be flying from Dublin etc

Any advise on which race to go to or which ones to avoid would be great. Also any tips in general.

    Thanks,
    Ciarán

Sorry, I should add that the German and Spanish dates don't suit

Last time I looked into it Hungry was the cheapest option in Europe. You could get a weekend grandstand ticket for a reasonable price.

Does the race have to be in Europe? You really need to be looking at a street track. Monza and Spa sadly while amazing tracks, the walking would be a little tough UNLESS you are going for a seating stand. If you can afford a seated stand then Spa would not be out of the question. There are some some stands near the entrance to the track at a good price.

I'd drive to silverstone on the ferry. It's always a good race.

Yeah Silverstone sounds like a decent option.. Always great races there too :)

No the race does not necessarily have to be in Europe but I was just thinking that would probably be best to keep costs down and it'll probably only be a 4 day trip so the shorter the flight the better.

He will be well able to walk a few miles around the track to where ever our seats are (I am going to buy seated tickets) but I just don't want him to have to queue for hours to get into the track.

Is silverstone supposed to have very bad traffic problems when trying to get to and from the track?

Thanks for all the advice so far, keep it coming

If he can walk a few miles then go for Spa. Amazing race weekend. After the race on Sunday you can walk the track if you like and stand on the famous corner for photos. He would love that! I had an amazing weekend this year there.

I'd also second SPA. Great weekend.

It depends on your father and how good/bad his stamina/mobility is. But when I went to SPA, to keep prices down I stayed in Brussels - it's a bit of trek in terms of public transport (train) to the track and you need to be up out of bed early. But staying in Brussels is cheaper (generally) than staying near the track itself, you can enjoy the city in the evenings and the scenery on the train ride is amazing.

We had no problems getting seats on the train and if I recall there was one changeover along the way. The only difficulty you might have is waiting for the shuttle from the train station Francorchamps to the track. We had no problem but on the way back we had to stand on the bus (which might be a problem for your father) -with traffic it was about 45 mins on the bus. Perhaps if you left the track earlier (or indeed later) you might avoid that problem though.

Great weekend though for sure and you can fly Ryanair to Charleroi to bring down the prices even more :-D

Spa, and remember there's half a dozen countries within an hours drive to make the most of cheap flights and accommodation and car hire.

It's worth, even it just to stand on Eau rouge after the race.
