Station IDs on screen - how completely annoying

I realise they are hard to avoid these days, but for me they can completely ruin a viewing experience, especially for drama, documentaries or movies. I can tolerate them for certain shows, eg chat shows or lightweight sitcoms etc, but does RTE and TV3 etc really have to have them for almost every single show?

Can't understand why they are there in the first place - does anyone else agree to file them under TV hell.....?

    Otherwise known as DOG

A wise broadcaster will know when to remove them.
I'm watching BBC 4 atm for a Dusty special and there's no dog, probably because it's all archive material.
In a crowded broadcast field I can understand why they may be needed, but major networks seem to manage without them.

There can't be too many "wise broadcasters" left out there at this stage. Almost every channel has them and almost all the time. Looking at the Wiki entry for DOG, it does mention copyright reasons, but is that just a smokescreen? I'd have thought it would be more about reinforcing the stations' identity(ie advertising).

No matter the reason, they are not for me - also from the Wiki entry, I see that BBC1 & 2 actually tried it out but were forced to abandon after numerous complaints. Maybe we should try the same thing on RTE...

If they must have them then Sky do it properly for most of their channels. DOG on screen for a few seconds at the start of a programme and then it disappears. Sadly Sky Sports keeps them on screen all the time.

In these days of Electronic Programme Guides I can see no reason for them.

Funny how they are never there for ad breaks. Pander to the advertisers and **** the viewers I suppose.
