X Factor do me a favour and move your schedule, you have ruined the Christmas music market! All the real stars and all the 'oldies', don't put any effort into bringing out a Christmas song anymore, and all because they know that some 'strager' from x factor is probably going to be Number 1 in the charts....... Ahhhhhhh sorry about that rant, but I feel a little bit better now.

    You're right though.
Can't wait until that crap is over, my missus is a huge fan and every Saturday night is the same....it'd drive you to drink......

All the best songs are classics, not because of the x factor.

Coldplay tried making an xmas song but it was boring.

    Hope !! :D

There hasn't been a decent Christmas No.1 since 1990. Let it go, man. Don't worry about it.:)

tbh most current bands and current musicians are in the music business as pirates, seeing how much they can hustle from the industry or looking to be famous. The music they produce isn't worth the money they think about.

I think that kind of helps make the point because they know if its not going to be Xfactor for no one its going to be some re-hashed rock/metal tune bought out of a spite campaign so why should any decent self respecting artist make an effort to compete

Gary Jewel had xmas no.1 years ago. Was just a normal song.

We need a song that reflects the spirit of the season and peoples real experience.

This is a ridiculous statement. Only a small minority of bands and musicians are in it purely to make money, i.e. the one's clogging up the charts with huge marketing behind them. There's far more music out there than that.

How do you explain the lack of quality xmas movies then?

The Vintage TV music channel is mostly Christmas free oasis in a sea of nauseating sentimental feel good shiny packaged crap on every other channel.

Has there ever been a decent Christmas number 1? I just think they should get rid of music charts altogether, other than being a marketing opportunity they're completely pointless.

A lot of chart stuff has been awful for years, I blame Stock Aiken and Waterman, that was when the rot set in. Christ on a bike there's no end of boy bands out there. I've been leaving the radio on low for our foster kitten in her safe room to keep her company and I've no idea who half the people are. Don't really care either, pi$$es me off to hear someone slaughter a decent song with a diabolical cover version.

Eminem had two christmas No 1's (in Ireland), Stan and Lose Yourself.
That Matt Cardle tune wasnt too bad, prefer the original, but

X Factor didn't ruin anything. Most of the Christmas no. 1's in the years preceding the show were awful too.

Cowell actually stepped out of the Christmas no.1 race for the last few years (releasing winner's singles a week earlier) and the songs that did make no.1 weren't exactly future classics. I couldn't even tell you what was Christmas no. 1 in the UK last year.

You may have got some of your words mixed up.

While there are many 'groups' or artists in the charts, there are few(er) bands or musicians.

It's not really the X-Factor's fault though. If you really want to blame somebody, blame those that buy the singles. They wouldn't produce a number 1 if there weren't people buying it.

    Nope, just nope.

Either it's a good song that can stand by itself or it's an attempt to cash in

    Charity records -
1984 Band Aid "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
1989 Band Aid "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
2004 Band Aid "Do They Know It's Christmas?" PR - where are they now ?
1997 Various (for Children in Need) "Perfect Day" Not a Christmas song.

    OK Christmas songs.
1978 Boney M "Mary's Boy Child - Oh My Lord"

Good christmas No 1's of the last 50 years.
    1973 Slade "Merry Christmas Everybody"
1987 The Pogues Ft.Kirsty MacColl "Fairytale of New York"

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Irish_Singles_Chart_Christmas_number_ones

UK list adds another two OK No 1's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christmas_number_one_singles_%28UK%29 but most of the time when there's a difference their No.1 is more likely to be a charity/cash in record than ours.
1957 Harry Belafonte "Mary's Boy Child" (later covered by Boney M aka Frank Farian aka Franz Reuther )
1976 Johnny Mathis "When A Child Is Born (Soleado)"

    UK No 2's

some of the recent stuff is just
