I have an audi a4 tdi (2003 model). Coolant needs refilling once a week, no sign of overheating tho or loss of power. any suggestions as to what this might be or is it a def head gaset problem?

Far more likely a leak than a HG. Run the car up to temperature and have a good look about with a torch from above and below. You might see a puddle in the under tray and look above that for the source of itl

could just be coolant cap needs changing, they do get very hot and have tendency to melt a bit, causing leak

Check the two hoses going from the engine block to the heater matrix. One of those leaked on my car (VW Passat TDI) causing it to lose coolant. The cause was a perished gasket on the fitting. Cheap fix in the end.

thanks for feedback. no puddle under car when ran to temperature, left it over night on concrete floor and no puddle underneath either. had that problem with hose at the back of the engine block before. pain in the arse

there is also a huge amount of pressure when letting off resevoir cap, seems like air is getting in system

Did you look in the undertray? Mightn't be a puddle at all, sometimes you just have to get underneath with a torch if your into that sort of thing. Lovely day for it ;).

Don't open you cap when it's hot it will boil your coolant and make air locks.

Check for wet carpets in the front. Heater matrix's are a pretty common failure in these, and in a lot of cases a blown head gasket causes the damage. The downside if it is gone is that its a pig to replace... Ie. Dash out.
